12 year old oil, any good?

I’ve only seen issues with very old metal containers…

Sealed in plastic would seem to be a good bet regarding excellent shelf life.
After all plastic's made from oil - so birds of a feather?

My god man, do you know how long that oil had been in the ground before it was bottled?

I'm not saying you're wrong, in fact I think it's probably fine to use very old bottled oil, as long as it's kept sealed and dry. But I do have a problem with your logic.

The crude oil taken from the ground has as much to do with the oil that you're putting into your crank case, as a field of wheat does with cake. It's a raw component, nothing more.

I'm not eating unprocessed wheat grain on my birthday, nor would I assume the 100's of millions of years crude has been in the ground has anything at all to do with the shelf life of a refined oil product.

Oil deposits formed over millions of years, with the majority of oil deposits forming during the Mesozoic era (252–66 million years ago):
  • Paleozoic age
10% of oil deposits formed during the Paleozoic age, which was between 541 and 252 million years ago
  • Mesozoic era
70% of oil deposits formed during the Mesozoic era, which was between 252 and 66 million years ago
  • Cenozoic age
20% of oil deposits formed during the Cenozoic age, which was roughly 65 million years ago
Oil is a fossil fuel that forms when dead organic matter, like plankton, is buried under layers of sediment on the ocean floor. Over time, the organic matter is compressed and heated by the Earth's mantle, and transforms into hydrocarbons, which are chemicals made of hydrogen and carbon.

Just don't put it on your salad! ;)
Just think, all of the worlds oil fields where under water.
Could the world have been warmer back then?

As long as the additive package is compatible with the internals, I'd say go for it. If the additives aren't up to what's called for, you may have an issue. Cat came up with their TO-4 spec after TO-2 additives started destroying wet clutches in their tranny's due to a change in metals used

Not to beat a dead horse, but try and diagram the Syllogisms you've presumed, then taken issue with.

I think you will find that, taken in context, each is valid. All oil is centuries old, his oil is twelve years old, his oil is not so very old at all.

His oil was stored in a plastic container; plastic containers are made of oil; his oil is likely safe in there.

"I'm not eating unprocessed wheat grain on my birthday."

Actually, mankind has been consuming (and even thriving on diets of) unprocessed grains for millennia. See Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind, by Yuval Noah Harari, or Guns, Germs, and Steel by Jared Diamond.

Long before the first Carvel or Baskin Robbins offered an Ice Cream Cake. ;)

Could have been. Which period are you referencing when you write 'back then?'

The fact that land masses, once submerged, are no longer has more to due with shifting tectonic plates than temperature.

The OP asked is "12 year old oil, any good?"

The answer is an unqualified "Yes."

Had he asked "Would it be good enough to use on a Mission to Mars?"

Well, then the response has got to be "What fer?" ;)

Not to beat a dead horse, [but to bait trolls]. . .
According to The Dictionary of Fine Distinctions, an argument is valid when it is consistent with its premises, To wit: All humans are green; I am a human; therefore I am green is a valid argument.
An argument is sound when it is valid and its premises are consistent with reality. The above example is not sound.

Next subjects: Sophists and specious reasoning.
