Sorry Firefighter and Karman for not posting any updates. I had to stop on the barn for two weeks to add some pasture fence due to the drought we had. I need to make sure my horses can make it until December without buying so much hay. I will be finishing the roof this week and will post the results.

TallyHo.. I'll have to get a few shorter ones and see how good they hold. I have noticed when screwing the longer ones down that some do seem to pull through and not tighten the same. I guess it's the pine being green and soft.

I'm really glad now that the loft roof is 6ft and not 4ft as I had originally planned. The 1/4-1/2 of the screw that is through the perlin/slat would really do a number on the top of your head.

Sorry Guys for not posting for some time on this thread. I know how good pictures make things fun so here goes. Since the last post I've installed the rest of the roof along with the cupula (spelling:confused:). I used 1x4 purlins on the roof as I have the trusses 16" on center and 2x were just too much. I put extra screws around edges just in case of the wind. As I used mostly rough cut boards they are really 1". The walls utilize 1x4 purlins on the hay loft and 2x4's on the ground level. All spaced 2ft apart. Concrete in Wash stall and tack room was a pain cost $600 for 12'x36'x5". The stall fronts were bought used. Got a great deal on them and they are Horsemans Choice brand stall fronts. Those stall fronts weight about 6 times what a stall front does from Tractor Supply. Takes two grown men to drag it around. Forget picking it up. You could house a mad ox in the stalls. I didn't use the stall dividers instead I used 2x10 boards nailed with 60d Ring Shank Pole Barn Nails. Those nails you have to break them them off as they will not pull out. An animal will have to break the board to do any damage. I plan to cap the top to keep the cribbers off. I purchased a metal break to do the trim myself as it saved a ton of $$$. I highly recommend making your own trim as it looks nice and you can make anything you want. Now this is getting long so I will stop. Let me know if you have any interest or questions about the project. I still have some misc trim and sliding doors to hang. Just been putting those off. I'm sure I'll get to it before winter gets here again. Those winds are brutal. Enjoy... More pics to come.

More Pics.
Windows are triple pane replacement windows. Obtain for $25 new from Habitat for Humanity.. Felt weird putting such a good window in the barn. Every one of them was about 1/4" different but was worth the extra measuring.

More pics. Metal installing day. Got some friends to come over and help screw and hold metal. Don't do this on a windy day. Those 26' pieces can get away from you... haha

More pics. I put the last pic in there to compare from the first day. I think it was in the early post but I really appreciate all the work and help I've gotten. I also appreciate the info I received from TractorbyNet users. When you look at the last two photos here I remember thinking how much work was ahead. This has been almost a 3 yr project from start. For those interested I posted a spreadsheet keeping up with the cost and continued to do that. The final cost of materials was $23,787 for a 36' x 84' with full hay loft horse barn. It was appraised by the tax man to be worth $65K which I tried to argue him down. Didn't work.

Attached is the spreadsheet if your interested. All lumber was cut locally by an ancient sawmill. Price was $350 per 1000 board foot.

The barn turned out great, I know you are proud of it. All that sweat and hard work paid off and your horses will appreciate it too. I did the math and it looks like it cost you $7.86 per sq ft. For such a nice barn, that's just dirt cheap anyway you look at it, no matter what the tax man says!! Nice job.

Thanks Kebo. The 3yrs gave me lots of time to shop around to find materials. For example the first box of 20d nails cost me $60 I was able to find some at a local really old hardware store for $30. Pays to shop around. The treated boards are reused from decks I dismantled. Saved at least $16 a board on those. Anyways I could go on and on about this so if anyone has any specific questions I'll shut up..
