15' copper rod. Worth anything?

I was crawling under an old house we are moving and found a solid copper rod. Is it worth anything?? I know people use to steal copper around here left and right. they finally tightened up the laws on scrapping copper to reduce theft.

Scrap bare, bright copper is going for about three dollars a pound.

Are you sure it is not just a copper plated steel electrical ground rod?.. What was the rod used for.? Is it about 5/8 inches in diameter. I am thinking you have found a ground rod, and it costs about $12 new, and no particular value, scrap except as a ground rod What would a copper rod be doing under a house?.. A steel/copper plated ground rod, yep,..I can see that.. Occam's razor.. think horses not zebras.

Well I just re read your post and see it is 15 feet.. not so likely a ground rod then... Did you cut it to see if it is for sure solid copper.?

Copper won't attract to a magnet,but copper-coated steel will stick a magnet. Check it out or just cut thru it like was suggested.
As far as its worth......something like that new would cost a pretty penny as the sayin' goes. don-ohio

I was thinking the same thing, but as you said, the length would make it an unusually long ground rod.

its a ground rod, if solid copper is close to $3/lb.

It's worth it's weight in... copper. Assuming it's made of solid copper.

Just picked up 15 , 8' copper plated/clad steel ground rods brand new from gentleman that had them stored in his barn for years . Traded him a trailer jack for it. Worked out good for both of us. Plan on useing them for ground rods on my livestock electric fence.
