1500 and 5 ft bush hog?

Yeah, we have a hunting lease in Ludowici. About 1300 acres. I also use it for digging ditches and installing drains for clients.

Just noticed you mentioned Ludowici, and thinking "why does that sound familiar?". Looked on the map and saw it is by Ft. Stewart where I used to go to Fla. National Guard summer camp in 1965-70, and would go into town, (Ludowici), for rec. at night.

Although the weight is not too bad, it does make it a little hard to make sharp turns when the front wheels don't like to stay planted. I tried without the QH and it didn't seem to make a difference. I am either going to weld on a steel I beam to the front or mount a winch on the front. That should give me another 150-200 lbs. on the front.

in the pic it looks like you already have something bolted or welded up there.

Yeah, I welded a piece of 1/4" C channel and closed it off with another 1/4" plate on the rear and ends to make a sealed bumper. It weighs maybe 60 lbs. Then I added the weights and bolted through the bumper so I can swing them up if needed for cleareance. They weight about 30 lbs. each. The bush hog weigh is unknown. I figure it has to be close to 750 lbs or more. The lift will lift it easily, but when making a turn with it raised, the front tires want to push out. I use the hog for cutting trails through the woods for hanging tree stands and walking. It works great, but it is heavy.
Normde2001, I have hunted Fort Stewart as well. My nephew went through the cadet program there and I am his mentor. We have property right on Jones Loop.

i have a 42" long piece of solid 3" round stock welded to 3" angle that then bolts to the holes on the front. it weighs around 80 lbs. Im trying to get a pieco of railroad track cut down from 6 ft to a 4ft and 2ft piece, the 2 foot piece will end up on the front for additional weight.

That is exactly what I am looking for. I would feel bad about removing some of the train track near my house. They probably wouldn't appreciate it, as it is still in use everyday. I have access to some 8" I beams, but they do not weigh enough. I am still thinking I can add a winch and be ok, maybe.

After several miles of rail repair on the tract that parallels the highway i take to work, i noticed they cut and removed and loaded all the other track except these 2 small pieces that were by their self with a few ties. one 6 ft the other 10 ft. needless to say i helped clean up the job and helped them with the 10 foot piece. It stayed there in the tall grass for months after i got the one i got, the other may still be there, ill try and remember to look tomorrow.

If you look hard at my tractor on my avatar that is a 3"x 3" piece of stock I put some mounting screws through and then loaded it with melted lead. Thanks to the bad Drought year awhlie back and Lake Oconee. Didn't take long to find enough old anchors to do.Could have made it longer but it's still HEFTY!!!

Did you fill while mounted on the tractor? At room temperature one cubic foot of lead weighs over 700 lbs. How much lead is in there?

Sorry about that but just found somewhat of a better pic. I put the screws though it lined them up before hand and then loaded it up. It's over a Hundred LBS. I'm sure It was a few small anchors.

If you will take a 16 pound sledge hammer and figure where you want to break this rail at, you can hit it in the same place about 4 or 5 times and it will fall apart. I was visiting a cousin one day and he showed me a piece of rail about 8 foot long and I asked him if I could have about 2 foot of it and he said yes. I told him I would get the cutting torch, He said no hand me that hammer and he hit the rail in the same place 4 or 5 times and it just fell apart. He said the molecules in the steel jumped every time you hit it and they would finally get parallel and no longer hold together. Clean brake! Speedy2
