I've been ghosting this site for some time, so I'll try and make this one post as complete as possible. I have about 70 acres - mostly wooded - that I need a tractor to work. I want to use the tractor for everything from mowing to lifting and pulling logs in the woods. My immediate needs are to be able to pull a box scraper and york rake for new landscaping around an addition I added last year. I have a very specific budget and want to stay as near to $10,000 as possible. I also have a dump truck, so the tractor has to at least have the capability of a F.E.L that can reach at least 7.5 feet (higher would be better).
Now, the N.H. / Ford specific questions. I really like the TC30 compare to the similar JD and Kubota I've looked at. At this point I may be able to purchase a new TC30 w/o loader and get the loader later. I'm disappointed there's no auto bleed system but like the rest of the tractor is basic and like the price compare to other brands similar models. My dealer gave me a price of about 14,500 for TC30, loader, and tax. How does that compare to what others have paid?
My dealer has a used 1620 (22 PTO HP) w/ 1257 hrs on it w/ ford loader. The asking price is $11,500 but I think there's room to move. The tractor appears very clean, however, had a backhoe that is being sold separately. For some reason I think backhoe = PTO / 3 pt hitch problems plus more abuse on the tractor. Looking for opinions on this as well as reasonable price. Rubber is about 75-80 percent.
There is also a 1910 (29 PTO HP) that is older and has about 1700 hrs on it. It has a DuAl loader which looks kind of chincy, but that may be just the bucket thats on it. I observed it had some very small hydraulic leaks which seemed to be from the valves for the loader. This one looks a little rougher but has some size on the 1620 (1620 is 2250 lbs v. 3000 lbs). Both are gear drive although the 1910 looks to be the older floor style while the 1620 is more modern. They are asking 9500 for the 1910 which I think is probably high.
I like the idea of getting more tractor than I can afford new right now for a lower price. A loader right now would be really nice. What are your experiences with these two used models and what should I be looking to pay?
Thanks in advance. I know this is long but all the other posts I see get replies that ask more details.

Avclay,

Welcome to TBN and if you got some time fill out your profile so we know where abouts you are from. Pricing will vary from area to area.

I will try and help you out some but it is my own philosophy. I am not one to buy used, my feelings is you buy someone else's troubles. If you are mechanically inclined and have the time used is ok. I am somewhat mechanically inclined but with owning a business with 80 employees I just don't have time to mess with it.

The other thing I think you should check around some more on that TC30. I paid less than that for my TC29D with Hydro, super-steer and sensi-trac. I think he is a few grand high there. So if you can get the new TC30 down in price then the difference between used and new isn't as bad. If you take advantage of the free financing for one year that helps also.

Just some things to think about. Some of the other guys here would say Im crazy but they may like to work on tractors also. I like to use my tractor for work.

Thanks Murph. I've updated my profile and I'm in upstate NY. I was hoping to get more responses overall. My speicifc concern is the effect a backhoe has on the rest of the tractor in terms of abuse and permanent damage - any opinions?

I know that Back hoe's are hard on tractors. But then so are FEL if you abuse them. I think if you treat the whole system with care you will be allright. I have a Bobcat mini excavator and I ran it the first year and put about 600 hours on it. When our season was over it still looked brand new. But since then it really has gone down hill because of different people using it. It seems speed is there goal and in the process they beat the crap out of it. Hope that helps you.

O.K., thanks for your help. I'm thinking I'm going to put a deposit on this deal tomorrow '94 or 5 1620 little under 1300 hrs with 2708(? - the Ford model that fits!) F.E.L, new woods 60" finish mower and new 65" (5 tooth) boxscraper for 11,800.
Any opinions? Since the last post I've found it has a new water pump. The engine is very clean, which actually concerns me. The differential lock got locked (he fixed it with a screw driver, said the mechanism was stuck) and the return on the HST pedal was very slow (grase fitting look as though it hadn't been touched in years). Salesman tells me all these issues will be addressed before I take delivery. Other than that the only other major issue is the beat up bucket on the loader, some minor tin damage and rust.
Also, the rims have started showing rust on the outside, apparently from the solution ( brain block /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif) they're filled with. Any concerns there?
I know I'm new but please feel free to give me your two cents or more! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Basically, the 1620 would be the hydro version of the 1715…, depending on the serial # of the 1620:
1620 ALL MODELS
SERIAL NUMBERS

Beginning No. Year
UJ20001 1992
UJ20136 1993
UJ21590 1994
UJ23587 1995
NEW HOLLAND 1996
…you could be purchasing a used tractor… up to 13 years old… and the hydro technology has improved greatly over the last 13 years…

If you were buying this “package” for $6 or 7K… then you have a built in cushion for future repairs (all out of warranty) all out of your pocket…

…but your price is “right around the corner” of brand new, without any “factory warranty”, older hydro technology, still a “USED” unit (up to 13 years old)…

I don’t know how long you’ve been looking, how many other local dealers you’ve visited, what other prices you’ve been quoted… but I’d seriously consider buying NEW, getting a low APR factory finance package, full factory warranty of 2 or 3 years, today’s technology… for only a few dollars difference… the benefits far exceed the difference of dollars paid…

(you can pick a brand new 60” finish mower, and new boxblade @ local TSC for ~~ $1200.)

Today is Saturday… bottom line, don’t let the money burn a hole in your pocket over the used 1620 package… it’s not an earth shattering deal… I’d keep looking…

Thanks John. I've read alot posts on here, never realized how many people were from this area (I'm just west of Saratoga). Anyway, 11,800 just about my max budget. I can probably pull in a bare TC30 for that with a mower, but, no F.E.L. Because my budget is very tight now I see the used package as 1) letting me getting everything I want / need right now w/in budget 2) giving me something to "experiment" w/ (its my first "real" tractor) w/ out getting a shiny new one all beat up and 3) providing trade in / resale value for a TC30 or 35, etc. a few years down the road when I can afford more tractor.
Thoughts on resale value in a few years if we just consider the addition of hours?
