Got my parts from Hoye last night. I found out that the hydro filter i got doesn't go on my Yanmar but it might fit my log splitter. I also got the manuals for it, 3 oil and fuel filters, a new head light bulb which I already have installed, and the oil pan gasket as my oil pan has a leak since the gasket has gone bad due to weathering. Now, tonight I am going to possibly take on one of the tasks but it is between servicing the engine (have to replace the oil pan gasket in the process which the oil pan has over 20 bolts holding it on), or servicing the tranny which means my tractor will have no fluid in it for over a day as i do not have an air compressor so i will have to blow out the hydro screen at my grandpa's place. So what do y'all think? Service the engine tonight or service the tranny?

Do both! You can pull those bolts in 20 mins and drain the Hydro flid in a 5 gallon pail all at the same time. By the time the pan/plate is off you can pull the screen and then clean up the pan and screen at the same time in a bucket of water soap and degreaser or bucket of deisel or gas. Lay the screeen to dry dry the pan/plate. Put the gasket and or sealer on and bolt the plate up and let it dry for a day then go to Gpa's and blow the screen if needed. Then when you get back put it back in and fill both sumps with oil.

Last night I serviced the engine. When I got to the point with the oil pan I couldnt get the right socket extension to fit in all the places between the pan and the 4wd shaft. I did notice that I had a bit of loose bolts so I tightened them all up. I regret not putting in the new gasket but it was just how it worked. I will have to do that next time. I also replaced the fuel filter, quite a job. There is a switch on the filter assembly that holds the filter on and the fuel bowl and the switch would not hold back the fuel. So basically I had to go very fast and switch from the old filter to the new one, put the bowl back on, and tighten it. I went from a full tank of fuel to a 3/4 tank of fuel within 60 seconds. :( I had Diesel all down my arms and I have to say that it is sure a challenge to wash the smell off. When I got the engine all serviced and the new oil in it sure runs smoother. Drove it around the yard to make sure everything was sound and it just purred. :) One challenge i had was that the only record I have for service was it was serviced in 6-09 so I have very little record on how it was maintained. The last service did not include the hydro though. Just the engine.

I was going to say that, but u beat me to it. I was going to say use vice grips on it. A tip i read from someone on here was to use small pieces of a paint stirrer, say 2" cut pieces around the fuel line so you dont damage the line like just vise grips may do.

I have used a 1/2" straight PVC pipe connector when I didn't have locking pliers. Bend the line in half, stick it into the connector. The crimp in the line blocks the flow. Poor guy- we've got a bunch of ideas for him after the fact...

JohnDeere3720, have you been able to figure anything out on the weak lifting capacity yet?

Hes waiting till he gets to grandads to take his screen out of the hydro. He is hoping that the screen is plugged. Hes going easy first so i doubt he is messing with anything else.

You nailed it there. I will hopefully get my tractor to my grandpa's this week and get it all apart.

I will have to do that. I also am working on making up a service chart to show what I have done service wise to it.

The service log is a good idea. I write the date and hours when I change the engine oil and filter, but the other service items don't have an easy way to mark. Having a log, in paper and/or electronic form is smart. If you ever decide to sell your machine(s), having the logs in that manner make it a lot more appealing to the purchaser as well, and worth more money to you. I like it.
