186d engine

I have a 186D from my grandfather that I am working on restoring and unfortunately it’s sat out in the rain and the engine is seized. I am trying to find her a replacement but I have had no luck. I have contacted a couple yanmar dealers and they do not maintain those engines or will work on them anymore, if anyone has any suggestions or information it would greatly appreciate it.

If you do get a replacement engine, keep the old engine. Parts swapping can save $$$.

YM186(D) has the 3T72HA engine. The closest next of kin engine would be the YM187(D) with the 3T72HA-N engine.
You will loose 2Hp using a YM180(D) engine of the 3T72HA-N. Yet, if the YM186(D) seized engine still has a good fuel pump and injectors, swap then and regain the lost power.

There are Gray Market machines with the base engine of 3T72, yet their ending suffix is way different. It could be possible to swap one of those engines in the machine, yet those Gray Market machines are far and few for SCUTS in North America. Mostly those go to places like UK, Ireland, Portugal, Spain, etc.

Is the current engine rebuildable maybe? Your engine is a sleeved type. f the head is fine, then the only question is, can the block and guts be rebuilt?

As far as I can tell they are fine I’m just trying to decide if a new engine is more cost effective then a rebuild

Finding a rebuilt maybe hard to do I'm showing 186, and the Ym1510 Basically are the same 18Hp. with power shift, then up to the F15 all 0.9L 3cyl. (72mm) Tractor Data shows 1Hp. increase for the F15. How they done it?

There will not be any thing new for a 40 year old engine. Even Yanmar only makes re-power engines in the last two tier emission diesels.

Does this engine also appear in the world of small commercial fishing vessels or sailboat auxiliary engines? Boatyards often have take-out engines.

Note Yanmar Marine dealers won't sell parts for ag tractors, they won't risk losing their exclusive franchises.

My cousin watched a video of me on the YM240 and said that racket has to be a Yanmar 1-liter 2-cylinder, no? He had spent a summer on a salmon boat in Alaska and was very familiar with the sound. Yes, same engine but with seawater cooling etc.
