All these conditions are TESTABLE, but guessing is easier I suppose .

Checking the coil, mounted to the engine for a fever? Too funny!

Good luck to the OP.
Really??? I have had more than one coil in which the engine would run for a while and then quit. Coil would get hotter than h___. When she cooled off she'd start up and run until coil got hot. Replaced the coil and problem solved. This happened or an old ford 390 engine and also on an old international 345 engine.

what I said soared completely over your head.

Few hear know or have experience with this very specific ford front mount coil and distributor setup.

This may very well be true. So far all I've read from you is about how little some of us know and a description of the coil etc. If you know so much about the Ford front mount coil and distributor setup, why don't you give us all a civil education on the matter? Help the OP solve the problem instead of trying to make everyone who posts here feel stupid.

You haven't given us one shred of diagnostic information. If you truly know how to test the coil etc, then let your next post be something useful that we can all file away in our minds to use if we ever need to!

I know full well how to test, repair and refit to a different coil setup. Kettering ignition systems on these old tractors are literally almost 80 years old now... and the technology behind them is almost 30 years older still.

In a previous post ( # 45 ) I said that jaxs could fix it after his rude post to me. Thus I won't be offering any help.. just observing the cooks fighting that have never seen the recipe.

I've got barns full of old tractors. I use old tractors every day. Fords are my specialty. My weekly pasture and right of way mower is a frankenstein ford 950 rowcrop built from many other tractors, and on average, it's a 1955 model. My loader tractor I use to move hay and dirt and lift stuff is another old 1955 ford, an 850. I have green tractors, orange tractors, different orange tractors, a coupe different types red tractors, blue ones, grey ones, etc. Including old ford N with front and side mount ignitions, including custom ignition conversion parts I've made by hand.

I'm happy to share my experiences and help out someone, I've bent over backwards to help others. I've sent custom templated parts and spare parts out, spare manuals, filters, rebuilt parts for charging systems for people.. that's all fine.. I like to help... that is, until the rude comments fly out and hit the floor. When that happens, I'm content to watch people struggle with a non running tractor.

I'd be glad to help once that was addressed.

I understand your frustration with jaxs. He upset. My apple cart too. I admit I have limited knowledge of this particular tractor. I think if we ignore jaxs and help the op get his tractor going he would greatly appreciate it.

To the OP, bring us up to date. Where are you at? What have you observed?

I just pulled the coil and checked ohms between top post and pigtail. It shows 2.7, and as a reminder, this is a 12V system. What should it be showing there?

I put a test light between the coil wire and the coil post. The light flashed while cranking. Put all back together, and will not start. I also reconfirmed the points are set to .015.

What do you have for resistors inline with the coil?
