The pressure cap is usually only dependent on the thermostat temp. rating.... I don't understand why it is dependent on the water pump... Help me out here...

i think he may want more than a 4 psi cap.. which is what the N winged pressure cap is.

I am not sure why, but I think the 302 with an electric water pump creates a lot more pressure than the old 4 cylinder.

All I know is that with the 4 PSI cap, when the themostat opens at 135 degrees, the overflow and the cap release, sending water all over, making a big mess.

It was a cheap test, put on the 13PSI cap, problem solved.

That leads me to believe that I need a higher pressure cap.

Now I just have to figure out how to get the winged top onto the cap.

Won't I wreck the cap if I weld the top on? Maybe on the lowest mig setting?

that's the difference in a tack weld.

how do you think the manufacturer put it on? :)

OK, all you purists can shake your fingers at me. I have wrecked a perfectly good Ford 8n to make it into a Hot Rod Tractor
Name - Frank-N-Ford.

OK, this has been my side project for a while now. In memory of my father Frank and his faithful old 1949 Ford 8N tractor. Goal is to have it parade ready by spring 2014.

See my progress at
Frank-N-Ford
