Yup, we've used coke, atf, kroil, all sorts of stuff. Years ago we were pretty deep into flywheel engines for a hobby, still have a few, boy you'll see engines stuck worse than anything in that hobby Kirk, lol.
So today was the day. Pulled the plugs, they were each as carboned up as the others so I felt good about each cylinder being about the same and that there wasn't any blowby at least not that you'd be able to tell by looking at one plug vs another. Didn't bring my compression tester, will do that next time probably.
Sprayed some PB in each cylinder and let it set for a while as I toddled off after a new battery. The one what was in it, an 8-volt job, was dead and there was no bringing it back to life. Picked up another 8-volt from the tractor supply (man I'd rather go to the dentist than there sometimes...).
Checked the oil and coolant again, all ok there. Dumped in about a gallon of a 5 gallon jug of gas I'd mixed up with 2-cycle oil and a can of Berrymans.
Hit the starter button and let it crank over a little to get some oil pumped back up where stuff like that belongs.
Put the plugs back in, turned on the gas, cranked it over for what seemed like only ten seconds and man that sucker surprised us both by firing right up on all 4!
Pulled it out of the old horse barn it was in and boy you could almost tell it was happy to be back in the sunshine.
Pulled the mouse nests out of everywhere we could find 'em and gave her a good rinse with the garden hose until the gas ran out. Dumped the rest in and again she started right up.
Ran it around a little more then parked it in a sunny spot where we shut it down for the rest of the day. Couldn't figure out why the rear hydraulics weren't working. No oil spot under the tractor while it was in the barn, so I didn't check the level but heck if that's all it is then I guess I got away lucky. Maybe...
Oh, and yes, as y'all already knew but I needed proof, it is in fact a 4 speed. Not sure however about the Sherman, I don't believe it's an O/U, maybe just an overdrive but again I don't know anything. Maybe y'all can tell from one of the bunch of pics I'm about to put up.
So that's about all I have to say about that, pretty nice little tractor, Dearborn snow plow, Ford brand Bushhog, one of the rear rims has been replaced, I'd like to put new front tires on but I'd like to make 'em quite a bit wider so they float better and I'm afraid the rims are too narrow to do that so I'll have to figure that out too. Tractor comes with set of tire chains and he believes the OEM sun canopy and frame for it is still in his Dad's old shed along with the OEM snow cab and maybe just maybe the original front bumper/grill guard which I'm pretty stoked about.
Thanks for all your input fellas, I appreciate it!
So, get ready for a bunch of pics. Enjoy!
