Nice looking machine there with lots of extras. Would much rather have that than a 8N

I started on an 8N at 7 years old. The Summer I was 9 Dad bought a new 641. I thought I was in heaven. I thought that tractor was the most powerful tractor made!!! :)

Hey thanks everyone for weighing in, good to hear your thoughts on this deal.

Spoke with Dave (my friend, the seller) earlier today and he said that the 3 point started to work, but it took some time before it would get going. Has me scratching my head because the plow up front works instantly and did right away once the tractor was started for the first time in a couple years.

We don't know if the 3 point will lift the bush hog, used to, but haven't hooked up to it to see what happens.

I guess I could start a new thread, maybe I should but before I do I'll flush the system and give it all new fluids just to rule that out.

Any other things I should look into with this hydraulic issue? I've been told to bleed the air from the pump, but again if the front cylinder is working like it should would there be any air to bleed?

I didn't read all 4 pages, but if front is on the side engine pump and works, no need to bleed.

If you flush Hyds, add in a couple qts diesel, circulate, then drain.

Thank-you souNdguy.

Yessir, front cylinder is run common with the 3pt off the side mount pump.

Couple quarts diesel, flush through, drain. Check.

You thinking somethings just gummed up in the 3pt works?

hyds usually bet neglected, most farmers remember engine oil changes every few years.. but seldom service the hyds till they fail.. thus if i were draining and refilling the hyds.. I'd always flush.

if they were 'wet' i'd dump in some 90% alcohol, a quart of cheap dex/merc 3+ ATF along with that diesel, then circulate it... DRAIN.. ETC.

Safe bet that you're right about the hydraulics getting neglected, not knowing any of the service history now that the old boy has passed-on.

Been a while since I've mixed up cocktails, thanks for the encouragement. If by "wet" you're meaning stored outside exposed to the elements, fortunately she's been in that old horse barn for at least the past few years. That don't mean nothing to all the years before that though, figured I'd mix a can of Berrymans with that diesel fuel for a flush, but the alcohol might be a sharper sword. I'll use the Berrymans for the engine, put a new oil filter in first then run it through for an hour up and down around the field while I'm flushing the hydraulics. Get it all warmed up good and worked through. Drain it all overnight and fill it the next day, give it another filter.

I've seen a few threads about fluid preferences, I guess I have a decision to make huh? Hahaha...

I'll be using my Rotella 15w40 with a can of the high mileage slick 50 for the engine, no idea which way to go with the transmission, hydraulics, and rear end...

That said, is there a NAPA Gold / WIX filter for this engine? Didn't see a filter for the hydraulics, don't remember reading about one either so I'm guessing they didn't use one huh?

Getting worked up to do this. Too bad the tractor is almost an hour away, makes chipping away at it kinda hard.

Dave found the old snowcab that his Dad used on the tractor. Hoping he comes across a couple other things, like maybe the right bumper for it. That'd be nice.

Here's a cell phone picture of the cab he found Saturday morning:

I had one that looked about the same condition. I wound up taking it off. Couldn't see through the "glass". Always trying to look over it or around the sides. Prefer the open air on a nice winters day.
Just go the Napa and give them the model number for the tractor Make sure you get the canister one. I think the screw type is 1550.might be the same number. Been a while so just can't remember #'s

Many years ago I pushed snow helping an older gentleman with a side business
He had an 861 and a Jubilee. Both had canvas heathousers with roofs and rear curtains. Warm enough to take off my coat. Good clear windows. Worked great.

The Jubilee was sooo much more nimble than the 861.

the 15w40 is a decent oil grade for these machines. I'd personally skip the slick 50, but that's me.

The engine oil filter. if it is a spin on, a napa 1515 or 1452 will fit. so will a fram ph8a, motorcraft fl1a etc. If it is a cartridge filter, it s a napa 1004 or fram ch6pl

there was a RARE hyd filter dealer upgrade kit available... if you have it, it will be on the right side aft of your leg. they are ultra ultra rare.... so assume no hyds filter.

UTF fluid meeting m2c134 spec is fine for hyds, rear end, tranny, power steering if equipped.. loads, etc.

15w40 for the engine, oil bath air filter.. etc.

a few drops oil in the generator bearing cap, and distribuitor oiler if present. ( priming with penetrant oil helpfull if dry )

#2 mep gun grease for all grease fittings.

if your steering gear does not leak, then any suitable gear oil.. 90w, 75w90, 85-140, etc. if sector seals leak, then pump in 0 or 00 grease.

If you havn't.. then repack the front wheel bearings. etc.
