you can have the pistons hard chromed, and they'll be better than new!. I said this before, maybe you missed it..

I guess I don't understand the statement. Would hard chroming them in effect make them oversized to match the bores if they had to be honed or machined?

Where I am now, the local hydraulic rebuilder quoted me $90 to inspect and quote rebuilding. They can probably do it in a couple days, but said it would likely cost in excess of what a replacement would cost. I have a Eaton Distributor that thinks they can get me a 30922-DSC (which looks to me to be a direct replacement, based on specs and schematic) for $260 + shipping. Several quotes have stated a 5-week lead time, including this one, but after asking about it, he thinks he can ship it within 5 business days.

I think the replacement is the best bet, if I can get it shipped within 5 business days. The rebuild will cost more unless I do it myself, but doing it myself risks not correcting internal leaks.

YES, hard chroming DOES make the part larger, THAT is what it's for.. it gets ground to proper size and polished after the chroming!..

I personally agree to replace it. If you even attempt to rebuild it, the cost to look at it is alone 1/3 of a replacement. Then comes trying to fix all of the problems.

That's the conclusion I ultimately came to. After an extensive search, I found an Eaton 30922-DSC for $260 + shipping that was in stock. It'll be delivered tomorrow. As best I can tell, there are only about 5-6 companies that can sell that part and only one that stocks it. The others all had a 5 week lead time from the manufacturer. Fortunately they were also the cheapest. Once it gets here and I verify the fit, I'm going to see about replacing the fitting seals and maybe the fittings. Also ordering some replacement rubber spacers for the fender since I took it off to get at the valve. Hopefully will be putting it back together this weekend.

Perfect fit. Dramatic improvement in function. Hydraulics are still very slow. Fluid looks milky after short run. Going to run it some more, then drain, clean sump screen, and replace filter. Water in an oil filter is probably the main issue currently.

 What a great find and rewarding result. Best of luck tracking down the milky oil...

I'm very pleased. If someone stumbles across this thread looking for the John Deere part # AR88088 and possibly AR94593, AR92178, and AM107083, take a look at the Eaton 30922-DSC.

I'm planning to flush the fluid out again and change the filter and clean the screen in the sump. I'm hoping the water is just leftover from before and not from another source. I may try replacing the shifter boot as a preventative measure as well.

While my hydraulics still aren't 100%, I'm pleased to report that the tractor has been sitting for about 8 hours now and the bucket hasn't dropped down yet.
