ford 1710
hello

i have a 1985 ford 1710 the a 3 cyl diesel. over the weekend i was running the tractor when i saw oil start to come out of the crankcase/ blowby vent. i shut the tractor down immediately. i then pulled the dip stick and it is FULL... very full... gave it the old lick test and it tastes heavily of fuel. on top of that the oil is super runny now like i would compare it to near water. oil is all black. no frothiness to it. wondering which route to go next ? is the injection pump shot ? or is there something internal that i just to fix? unknow amount of hours.

If u have a torque wrench, figure out the size (17mm?) and retorque the top nuts, where the inj lines hook up, to 35 ftlbs..
THATS for the pump that has the steel lines that come straight up..
If they come off the pump in a circle, the front seal has “let go” and the pump needs to come off to change the seal.

I sounds as if it’s a PFR pump.??
U need to remove the steel lines from the pump.. USE THE 2 WRENCH METHOD.!!
Remove 1 then 3 and come back and get #2.. it might be easier..
Then torque the top nuts on the pump..
Hopefully you’ll get a smidge of a turn on the top nuts..
There’s a metal to metal seal along with a small copper gasket that seals the fuel from the oil..

Did u look to see if there’s a supply pump on the engine..?

If it is indeed a PFR pump and u have to remove it for repair, don’t waste your time trying to time it.. it’s timed with shims under the pump base.. the shims will either stick to the bottom of the pump or to its mounting base.
