I believe that the take-up spring #36 also goes around the pumps governor shaft.

Yes, it was reinstalled. What's strange is sometimes you can press the foot accelerator and it responds as it should. Other times you can step on it and nothing happens.

Mike,

I dont recall there being a spring connected directly to the injection pump. I do however, recall there being some spring tension on the lever that connects to the pump. It's been a while since I've had the pump off so I couldn't guarantee that last statement. By the diagram, It's hard to determine exactly where the other end of that spring connects.

Achallie, I believe that the spring #36 is a take-up spring that goes around the pumps governor shaft. It is retained with retaining pin #8 on the governor lever #4. The purpose of this spring is to take up the backlash on the governor lever so that the rpm’s don not oscillate. The tractor will operate with out the spring, but if that spring makes its way into the timing cover it could do significant damage. I would try to find that spring. The parts illustration is out of scale, the spring is thin, about .05” dia.

My first test would be to manually turn throttle lever #13 and see if the rpm’s change. Next I would check if the throttle lever #13 is firmly attached to shaft #10. You should be able to tell if the throttle lever is turning with the shaft from the outside.

The picture below is from another brand of tractor, but it shows the take-up spring installation.

The picture of the injection pump is from a Deutz. The spring is used to retain the governor lever with out a pin. Your 1920 may be configured the same. There were 3 different pumps used on your model.

ok...I know for sure there wasn't a spring attached, only the lever and pin. I'll pull it back off and see if possibly the spring broke or somehow became detached. Thanks Guys.

When you say lever and pin. Are you talking about the pin on the injection pump or the retaining pin that goes through the shaft on the injection pump?

In other words is there anything retaining the governor lever so that it doesn’t fall off the pumps governor shaft?

Yes. Item 8 retains the governor lever.

Thanks Mike. That's a great link. That gives me an idea of how this is set up and some areas to check into. May be a few days but I'll get back with my findings. I appreciate the help gang.
