1996 Gator 4x2 VIN# WOO4X2X014387
Hi, help. A friend of mine owns this Gator, uses it on the farm for chores. Last week on a run to the burn pile after she turned this off it would not restart. Thinking it ran out of gas she filled the tank making no difference. It had not run out of gas. I looked at it today checking the fuel flow, the filter, looked for blockages. I found nothing at all. I gave this a spray of carb cleaner, the engine started and ran until it had finished the hot shot. I did this a couple of times and checked the fuel supply at the same time and there appeared to be a fair amount. I am not well versed in these things so I don't know what to look for. I was an auto tech for almost 50 years so I can get dirty. Is there any help out there on what or where I can look to maybe get this running again? Could it be a carburetor issue? Right now I am lost. Any help would be great. Thanx in advance. Curt

I think I’d start by pulling the float bowl off the carb. to see if it has fuel.

Thank you, I didn't think past the delivery diagnosis. I have to go to the farm today for some chores I will take tools enough to attempt this. It can't be difficult, right?

Have you tried to clean the orfice that the needle valve seats in from
the opposite side of the needle valve? Doing this has solved many
problems and saved me a lot of time

Willy, I have not. I was not able to get to the farm this past weekend so I will plan a day this week and work on the Gator a little more. Thanx for your tip, I will let you know later. Thank you.

Yesterday, 8/22/2024 I went to approach the Gator problem. With both of your thoughts in mind. I loosened the bowl and it showed signs of fuel. I removed the carb to take a better look. I removed the bowl to find years of trash floating everywhere so much it was caked all around the base of the bowl. I removed the float, needle and the orifice on the top and cleaned all of this hoping for the best. I also cleaned the intake port, reinstalled the carb, pulled the choke and turned the key. To my surprise the engine started, runs fine and passed it's maiden voyage to the mailbox some 300 feet down the driveway. I thank both of you for your time and help pointing me in a positive direction.
