I wondered about this. I also wonder how the rest of the drivetrain would hold up to more power 🤷*♂️

I've made several runs in 4H with no issues. The driveshaft is probably the weakest link, but most likely would require something stupid to break it (like power-braking with a trailer...ask TFL about that one!)

For sure, all the EB's respond great to tuning & octane. Ford left tons of margin on these engines.

When you say runs, I am guessing 0-60&1/4 mile? Do you have the times? Just curious but the truck I bought feels like a mid 14 and mid 5 sec run.

Best was 12.98 with a near perfect run...low 13's is the norm. Never "officially" timed a 0-60, but probably low 5's. That's running 4H with my LMS 93 perf tune.

This is my understanding from reading the F150 Forums but it hotly debated which engine is the quickest. In a light truck, say a short bed 2 wheel drive, the 5.0 is the quickest. In most normal trucks, say 4x4 crew cabs, the 2.7 turbo is a little quicker than the 5.0 but at higher speeds, the 5.0 will pass it. For example in the 1/4 mile the 5.0 is quicker but in the 1/8 mile the 2.7 has a slight edge. Also as a rule the 3.5 turbo is quicker than both the 2.7 and the 5.0. Also the 2.7 has the best fuel mileage and the 3.5 can get better mileage than a 5.0 but I think the way most people drive they are about even. Like I say, this above info is debated all the time on the F150 forums but the general consensus is they are all good engines.

Holy cow tech has come a ways. I can remember in my street racing days (20-25 years ago) a 12sec car was rare whereas anyone faster was a legend!!!

I drove and rode in my buddy's 2017 King ranch F150 4x4 with 3.5 EcoBoost it was a nice riding truck. He has the max trailering package that allows towing of 12k lbs. Don't be fooled you need that max trailer package to pull the max towing capacity not just tow/haul mode on the shifter. We drove 1100 miles to FL from NY unloaded managed 25mpg. She had as much getty up as comparable 1500s in my opinion being I have driven a 2017 GMC 5.3 4x4, and a 2017 Ram 1500 with the 5.7. Where the truck shined the most was unloaded highway mileage. Once we got to FL we hooked up the 25' Ocean boat. Mileage dropped to 10 mpg doing 5 over the speed limit. The boat weighed approximately 6500lbs.

The overall performance of the truck was descent and towed the boat fine. I figured the MPG was going to suffer he was optimistic with hoping for 12-14MPG. I knew because of the size and weight it would barely be in double digits it is the nature of the beast. My Father in law has the 2017 GMC and it got the same gas mileage pulling the same boat he also averages 22-24MPG driving the same trip.

I wouldn't go as far to call the truck a rocket ship in terms of speed unless it is the fastest vehicle you've driven, but it isn't a slug.

My next truck is a Ram 2500 only because I want an 8' bed and I'm not paying the premium Ford and GM want for their 3/4 ton. I've been a GM guy for years but the cost of their new trucks are insane and they aren't as reliable as previous years too much going to the lowest bidder with junk going on the vehicles. Ford has come a long way in terms of engine longevity from the old Titan motors and Dodge have a bulletproof tranny unlike years past. In my opinion you can't go wrong with any of the newer trucks buy what you like and is comfortable to you.

My 2003 silverado is a rust bucket living in the "Rust belt" but does everything I ask of it and then some. FWIW my truck pulled the Ocean boat 190 miles getting 10mpg with an old 5.3L and 4 speed transmission.

Its possible you might actually get high 4's in 0-60 times. I have a Dodge Challenger, 5.7 hemi, that is tuned and never had it down the 1/4 mile but have run it several times in the 1/8 mile. Based on my 1/8 mile times I'd say high 12's would be the best that car would run under perfect conditions, but more likely high 13's on a regular basis. The car has a built in 0-60 timer and mid to low 5's are the norm but I have pulled a couple of sub 5 second times. Traction is the key and 4 wheel drive really helps with that in your truck.

Saw at a car show a 5.7 stock challenger ran mid 12s. According to Mopar it was the fastest documented stock 5.7 challenger built. I think with a good tune and descent tire you'd be in the 12s. His car was just built and got perfect conditions. I feel like they do this on purpose with some cars and act like they were a "mistake".

Unfortunately the 4wd will rob a little more power equating more drivetrain loss, the 2wd (if it hooks) would be faster.

F-150 comes in 8' bed, just not larger than SuperCab (rear suicide doors). Hard to find 8' beds on dealers' lot.
