can any one tell me how much a 2X8 deck board will hold. I'm concidering putin some tie down on the floor of my trailer. The ones I have looked at on Northan Tool are good for 5000 lb. I have seen heavyer ones at tracor supply.

Thanks Charlie

I bought 4 of these and I would highly recommend metal under them and The wood floor would have to be routed or chiseled out to make them fit properly

I think what is more important is how far apart is the cross bracing steel under it. Is it 12", 16" or 24" on center. The wider you go the more weight the board has to carry. If your trailer has 12 or 16" cross braces the weight is more distributed by the support under the board.
Tie downs through the board should be placed so the through bolts catch a crossmember and not rely strickly on the board. If you must bolt a tie down only on a board put a steel backing plate on the bottom side of the board, the larger the better. And try to keep the tie down loacated as close to a cross beam as possible for strength.

I don't propose to know the answer. But as George stated, it depends as much on the bracing underneath as on the boards themselves. Going to extremes, if the braces were 6 FEET apart, the board would not support an awful lot of weight. But if the braces were 6 INCHES apart, the braces would probably give before the boards broke.

You didn't say what you you were "holding down", but unless it's very light I would be inclined to mount hold downs to the frame of the trailer.

Another factor is what is holding your board down to the trailer. If you have a big beefy metal plate to hold the tie-down to the board, but your board is held to the trailer by a single 3/8" bolt, you'll probably end up with your tractor and your trailer deck off the side of the road together.

I agree with previous posters...bolt to the trailer frame if at all possible.

Thank you all for your opinion. you were all very helpfull. I should have told you I intend to hall a small JD 2210 + loader and 50" land Pride tiller. The cross members are on 24" centers. but they are 2" lite angle. I'm going to tie the tractor down to the frame. It would have been nice to use them bolt on anchors. I may still use them for smaller items.
Thanks
Charlie
