I like that idea, too. The more ways to connect the better. That way the temptation to tie a rope to a hydraulic cylinder "just this once" is reduced.
[Maybe it's time to revive that old thread you started in the customization forum. We've got a great bunch of new modifiers/contributors. I only ask one rule: "NO POSTS ABOUT REVERSING WHEELS ALLOWED!!" ] /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I've got to go take that welding class!! I'm completely in lust with Charlie's hitch mods. I haven't figured out one darn thing to do with the pin hitch...

And thanks a bunch for the the crab-walk enlightenment too. I read that one and went "DOH!" Of course! I've used the implement to lift the front of tractors for years and completely overlooked the possibilities that presents. I think you're right, if you're hung up on the "high side" of a tree like I was, it seems reasonable to work the tractor around the tree first and then crab-walk down the hill from there. I'm positive I'll have a chance to test that theory out Real Soon Now.

As soon as I do a little Zen observation and figure out where my oil/fuel leak is coming from. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

My only "mod" so far is to mount a rear-view mirror up under the ROPS roof. Didn't do a darn bit of good (I underestimated the impact of the articulation), I'm just too lazy to take it off...

But boy, I'm teetering on buying a welder so I could do some hitches. Which is easier for a welding newbie like me -- electric or oxy-acetylene?

Get a good MIG welder, so you can use flux core wire or actual metal inert gas. There a lot of posts on TBN about welder models and types. I think the wire is most flexible and easiest to use. We have MIG, wire,TIG/stick and gas. We use stick for heavy stuff and wire for everything else, seldom inert gas. Mild steel doesn't need it. (I'm bad at all of them. Not enough disciplined practice,)

Search of the customization and build it yourself forums for a lot of good info.

I can't claim credit for the idea, since I saw it at Power Trac. I thought mine was pretty strong, but yours is genuinely stout!

I use mine a lot to back a dump trailer around. Have you cut a piece of 2" square tube for a boom yet? A 3 or 4 foot boom with a hook will have uses you haven't thought of yet. And maybe one angled a bit to one side... and
Welding opens a lot of new doors, doesn't it?

It sure does! I look at things from a totally different perspective now.

I find myself keeping an eye out for low cost steel now too.
