Oil & Fuel 200 hrs and NO OIL IN THE FRONT AXLE? -3120

About once every ten years or so I have to run diesel in the transmission of my 8N to "fix" the 3 point lift. The tractor sits outside (has for the 26 years I have had it) and moisture sludges up the pump valves to the point the lift quits.

Running the diesel through the unit flushes it out and it goes back to working, I believe this is a common trick on the 8N. But with the diesel in the unit you never load the tractor or use an attachment. It generally takes about fifteen minutes of runtime to get it back to going.

I agree with Irwin on the JD, take the load off the front end and follow his instructions.

Hmm, sounds more reasonable to me. Takes two seconds to lift up the front end via loader. If I'm just removing debris should I coffee filter it and repeat 20+ times? Maybe switch out to a fresh gallon for the last few. Otherwise I might need to run 20 gallons through. Are the particles too small? Maybe I would just be putting 'em right back in. Would the dealer have some kind of flush set up that would work for this?

Sounds like the spindle caps might be a do at home job. Although, I should probably just take it to the dealer to give it once over, and see what else I've missed. I'll call him tomorrow.

I suspect it was run empty for at least 50 hrs in 4wd. :mad:
I even took it for a test drive over a mile, to get to the nearest paved road, so I could load test the engine at full throttle. :eek:

You got a $15-20000 tractor. Flushing a few times with clean diesel is a small price. Not cheap, but given the overall cost of the tractor, it is not very expensive. It is a CUT; you shouldn't need that much diesel to flush it; Even 5 gallons sounds like a lot.

I'd coffee filter it. Cheap, and gives you an idea how clean it is throughout the process. What does a dozen coffee filters cost, 50 cents?

I would though, after cleaning it, if things look ok, run it for 5 or 10 hours. Then change the fluid, and check for goop in it.

Hawaii Organic;
My TC 55 was delivered without fluid in the front axle. I didn't check it for about 50 hours because I thought the dealer would check everything. My first clue should have been when it ran out of fuel in the drive way. Not enough to even get it in the storage building. Then I specifically asked them to check the hydraulic pressure to make sure it was not set too low. Well They didn't do this or install the warmer thermostat and block heater per our agreement.
In todays fast paced world... I guess your on your own !
