I have a 2005 Masey Ferguson 1428v and was wondering how difficult it would be to replace or repair the hydraulic pump in the tractor. I would wait until the weather improves here in Michigan. I have all the tools needed and spent 32 years as a machinist so I’m not intimidated or worried by the job it entails.

In many of these compact tractors the hydraulic pump is driven by a gear on the front of the crankshaft. You need only unbolt the input and output hoses and unbolt the pump from its mount. From there pull it out. Some may be rebuilt while replacement is all you can do for others.
