Are you sure it s Isuzu? The are part of GM now and the Duramax is basically a Isuzu engine. I have heard that Toyota is going to use a 8.2L Hino inline engine.

I believe that HINO engine was used in Bayliner boats a couple of decades ago? It was initally rated at 250 hp., I think?

Isuzu and GM ended their relationship. The Duramax was designed by Isuzu for GM, not built by Isuzu.

It is an Isuzu design, but not an Isuzu built engine. GM bought out Isuzu's partial ownership of DMAX Ltd ~5 years ago. The Duramax engine has always been assembled in Moraine, Ohio under the name DMAX Ltd, using an Isuzu design developed in a partnership between GM & Isuzu.

The smaller DMAX was developed entirely by GM in the USA and will be hitting the streets in about 9 months, hopefully.

One would have to wonder why Isuzu would build them a diesel if Toyota already owns a diesel engine company called Hino.
Toyota and Isuzu looking at diesel

Posted by Candace Lombardi

Toyota plans to announce specifics next month regarding collaboration with Isuzu on diesel engines.
Toyota has been in discussions with Isuzu, a company known for its expertise in diesel engine technology, since November, said Tina Ewald, assistant manager for media and investor relations at Toyota Motor North America.
Earlier Friday the Nikkei, Japan's leading business daily, reported that Isuzu has invested in a plant in Hokkaido, Japan for the purpose of supplying Toyota with 200,000 low-emission diesel engines per year. The report said the plant will be operational by 2012.
Toyota would not confirm or deny the report.
"We are still discussing the concrete form of collaboration, still considering different areas, and will probably make an announcement sometime in July," said Ewald.
Areas of collaboration on the table with Isuzu include field research and development of small diesel engines, emission control technologies, and devices for diesel engines and "other technologies related to alternative fuels," according to Ewald.
Toyota did not reveal any specifics on projects, or if the company has a hybrid diesel engine car in mind for development.
Toyota purchased a 5.9 percent stake in Isuzu last November. At that time, Toyota issued a statement that the two companies planned to "utilize their management resources in the fields of research and development and production, and to supplement each other's technological development."
The news follows this week's announcement that Toyota has developed a valve system to make gas engines 5 percent to 10 percent more fuel efficient and reduce emissions. Toyota plans to implement the technology in all of its gas engines by 2010.

Sounds good and I stand corrected. It will be a good match.

Just got done reading the new Motor Trend Magazine. They have a nice article on the new 2009 F-150. No mention of a diesel but they do have a all new lineup of engines. All 4 engines are V8's. The base is the tried and true 4.6L, then there is a 4.6L that is basically the Mustang Engine, a revamped 5.4L Triton, and and new 6.2L. New transmissions with 6 speeds back up the V8's. The also include traction and stability control on all model standard. They also have the trailer brake controller like the Super Duty's do and have a anti sway control that is going to control the engine, brakes, and trailer brakes to aid in sway situations with trailer in tow. They say they realize that 20% of the trucks sold are actually used as work trucks so they wanted to make them as user friendly as possible for the occasional tower. They did not list tow ratings but say it will be the highest in the 1/2 ton class.

The frame is fully boxed, 10% lighter, 20% stronger. They also shaved a lot of the unsprung weight to lighten it up and improve the ride. The exterior dimensions will stay the same but the cabs will have up to 6" more leg room. They will still offer 3 beds, 5.5', 6.5', and a 8' box. As for trim levels they will be the base XL, STX, XLT, FX4, LARIAT, KING RANCH, AND THE NEW PLATINUM. The high level Platinum will be in line with the Lincoln trucks and will probably replace them.

The cool new options will be a backup camera in the rear view mirror with a second camera shot at the trailer ball area for hitching up trailers. They are bring over the ladder from the Super Duty line in the tail gate. Also new is the Sync Radio (where you just talk and it does it like the commercials).

Should hit the show rooms by mid to late summer.
