I did not want to start a Ford/GM/Dodge Pi $$ ing match like we usually get into. I just simply wanted to post the numbers that were given to me..

To be honest I was quite surprised in the numbers. I would have honestly thought Ford had a larger share of the market and that Dodge and GM were closer. That is just based on what is sold in my area and where I travel for work. Again, I am a pilot and most every support vehicle at a airport, taxi cabs, or hotel like the shuttle is a Ford based one.

Again, I just posted the numbers. We all think brand X is the best. Think about it. You or I would not buy what we thought was second best. Kind of like marring the second best girl.

I would still like to see what % of Dodge and GM trucks are equipped with diesel engines. Not sure why the article did not list it for them while they did for Ford? I guess they do not release those numbers because I spent 15 minutes looking on the net and could not come up with them either.

No wonder Ford can brag about the F series is number one in sales for 33 years.

While I am sure it may help slightly fleet maintenance programs are really not a factor in the numbers I posted. These numbers are purely pickup trucks, not cab and chassis like so many fleet buyers would order.

So from the figures shown I take it the GM outsells Ford in the 1/2 ton market. Since 1/2 tons are demonstrating greater trailering & driving ability will this segment continue to expand for all truck producers? I have noted that many in this forum, which are occasional towers of 5K-10K trailer loads are rethinking diesel and considering the newer 1/2 tons. Do any of the 1/2 tons offer trailer brake control as an option? Interesting figures. Thanks for sharing.........Gary

I know that GM half tons, and I'm pretty sure new Ford F150s offer factory integrated trailer brake controllers now. I'm not sure about half ton Rams.

I forget where I read it, but I was recently researching new 3/4 ton crew cabs and the figure I saw for Dodge/Ram 3/4 & 1 tons was ~80-85% opt for the Cummins diesel vs. the Hemi.

Edit: I just checked and GM, Ford, & Ram offer factory integrated electric trailer brake controllers as an option (about $200-250).

The Hemi V8 is available, with 383 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque, on Ram 2500 only; the Ram 3500 appears to now require the Cummins diesel. While the industry mix for this class is 59/41 diesel to gas, 79% of Ram heavy duty trucks sold in 2008 were diesels, and in most recent years 80%-87% of Ram 2500/3500 trucks were diesels.

Not the most recent data, but percentages should still be pretty close.

Having purchased a 2011 Silverado, you have to wonder how many people are aware the Extend cab and 4 door 1/2 tons are made in Mexico? I went for the regular cab as it was made in USA. I think it was a mistake for GM to move manufacture from Canada to Mexico. My brother bought the ext cab 2011 so will have to see how they hold up.

My 07 Ram 3500 chassis/ cab was made in Mexico, or at least assembled there?

I wasn't to thrilled with that fact at first, but since I wanted the truck I had no choice.

After 4 years I don't see any problems related to where it came from, no scorpions or anything like that :) The truck seems very well put together.

Some of the extend cabs are still made in Fort Wayne, IN. I am not sure about the crew cabs.
