. . . Funny you said that about Ford owning Cummins, that is such a common misconception now a days. While they do own some shares of the company but nothing even close to a controlling interest from my understanding. . .
I was just ribbing you. :D
Actually, it was years ago, and I think that Ford might have had a controlling interest in Cummins. (if not a controlling interest, at least a significant one) Nowdays, I'm not even sure they own any Cummins shares at all.

I'm just a Ford man and I love the 7.3 and have had several of them. But, I haven't bought a Ford diesel since my 2003. That was the end of the 7.3 and it may well be the last new truck I buy.

My parents always bought Fords so I sort of come form a Ford family. I ALWAYS bought Toyota or Nissans so this is my first Domestic vehicle (at age 42) and I really like it. I did look at the Fords but at the time they just couldn't get me close on the price - figure the Dodge can be worth about 5K less when I am ready to get rid of it and I would be equal plus I just sort of liked the look of Dodge better (sorry personal preference). My friend and neighbor just got a new Ford top of the line F250 Diesel and I must say it is a nice truck, just a bit out of my price range!
No problem on the ribbing - got ya. Just know a lot of people get that confused. Heck one fellow I met swore cummins was owned by Ford and the cummins was the only engine Ford ever offered because they owned them?????? I just smiled!

Code54,
I have two good friends that have bought Dodge 1 tons in the last 2 or 3 years. They both bought because of the price. Similarly equipped Ford would have been $12-15k more. Can't say that I blame them. I've ridden in their trucks and like them. They're fine and seem to be good machines. The only problem was one of them lost a turbo at 1300 miles. The bearings just locked up. Dodge replaced it under warranty, of course, and he was back on his way. Only inconvenience was that he and his family were on vacation at the time. They just spent an extra night or two in Florida. :D BTW, when he called and told me where they were and what had happened, I just had to ask him if he wanted me to come get him with a GOOD truck!

Funny thing about trucks. It seems everyone has some brand loyalty, to some degree. A old buddy of mine, used to give me the devil about my Fords. (he would only buy GMC - never a Chevy, only GMC) He would grin and ask me to park behind the barn so nobody would see it in his driveway. He had a fit when his oldest son came home with a new F-250. Told me that he had to put a paper bag over his head so nobody would recognize him in that Ford. I told him that the paper bag was a good idea, and that he should just wear it all the time! :p
All in good fun. :)

I actually drove Chevys for my first 15 years or so. Never even looked at anything else. Then, in '93, I bought my first new F-350 diesel. Been hooked on Ford ever since.

Bigfoot62 - you sure are right, it does seem everyone has a preference! I been fairly loyal to Toyota for years and I have to say my Tundra had a few little issues that spooked me a bit. It seems everything as complex as an auto breaks at some point or another so I guess if it is not a reoccurring theme Im ok with that. It is sort of like tractors, I have buddies that almost cried when I bought a Kubota. But if they have any issues with their Deere I love to give them a hard time (Before I end up going over to help them repair it ) Funny thing is I like Deere, just can't let them know that!!

It seems to me that Ford makes a truck for every need under the sun. If they also had Cummins diesels, nobody else could even sell their trucks in my opinion. However, if you want a Cummins, you have to accept that you'll have to live with Dodge's quirks. That Cummins inline 6 cyl diesel can sure make you blind to a lot of other faults.

I think the new 6.7 Powerstroke is doing well and the new trans is supposed to be as good as or better than a Allison.

That's the truth.

I've owned several Ford products, wifey likes the Explorers. I've always been a GM guy. The Fords have been OK mechanically, they never left her stranded, but I just don't like the way they handle. Dunno how to explain it, but there's something about the steering system that seems to make the front end unstable, especially in a turn. Kinda like a bounce in the steering wheel that causes the steering to actually turn, left-to-right-to-left-etc., without me actually doing the turning. Just an unstable feeling. Never researched this, but I think the front wheels may have lateral movement (in the camber direction, if that makes sense), that GMs don't have.

And the Ford diesels are fuel guzzlers.

I bought this Dodge for the Cummins, and the manual transmission. The inline six engine is a workhorse.

What I'd really like to have is this Cummins and manual transmission in a GM.

OK, what I'd really like to have is this thing right here.

This is the last year in NASCAR for Dodge. Could not find a top level team to run their product. With brand loyalty a major thing for NASCAR fans this cannot help Dodge.
