2013 Hay Season

   / 2013 Hay Season #202
Finally got my field baled, only got 18 4x5 round bales out of it would have gotten more but I had cut it twice earlier in the season with a rotary cutter. Being as how this is my first set of bales I think they turned out not bad. The funny thing is I had an audience and didn't even know it, my neighbor from across the hiway saw me baling and popped on over and asked if I would do his hay crop, I agreed and he asked my what my price is, I had no idea but found a government website that posts the average rates for different custom services are. I figured since I was new I would put my rates just under the halfway mark. But I don't know if I should charge per hour or per acre when cutting, it's not a lot of acres but a really thick crop that will produce a lot of bales.

Friday afternoon we decided to use my neighbors tractor and small round baler to try and "ease" across some of the wettest areas. The lighter tractor and baler did help, but even it was too much for some spots. We bogged it down three times, but we were able to get it baled. The forecast seems to be clearing up toward the end of the week, so hopefully we would need a set of duals.

Not sure exactly where you are but that is very wet. It is wet here in SW PA but luckily not that wet. At least you were able to get the hay in.

Finally put 2nd cutting alfalfa in the books. I put up 42 rounds the first cutting, 26 rounds on this one. Rain has shut off, need some to get any kind of 3rd cutting.
