I have one of those too...396 with 4:11's..Not bad on gas until I put my foot in the carb..Odd that gas guage never came close to where it was after.
Topkicker said:The first new car my dad bought was a 69 SS 396 Chevelle. I remember it well. I can still hear the rubber burning and the dual exhaust singing. My mom would drive it during the week to get groceries and her hair done. Dad would load me in the passenger seat and launch it at the stop sign at the end if our street on Saturday after working all week. I would laugh till my sides hurt like any young boy would do when their dad did something that cool.
I brought a 69 SS 396/375hp to my dad when I was 16. Said I was going to buy it for my first car. Good not great shape,#s matching auto air. He is a muscle car guy. He laughed his butt off. "Son, that car has more power than you have sense. Not happening. " The car had a little motor work done, probably 410-420 hp actually. Broke them loose at a 45mph roll.
Topkicker said:My dad's was a 396/350 horse. His was an auto tranny and factory air. I THINK only the 4 speed manuals got the 375 HP. I love that body style. Wouldn't mind having one taking up space in my 3rd bay. The only thing he changed on the car was the wheels. He replaced the factory SS wheels for 15x8 Vette Rally's w wide bands and flat center caps. Still like those steel wheels on em today even with all the alloy aftermarket options.
Well I have 2007 Silverado with a 5.3 AFM engine that uses 1 qt of oil every 2k miles. GM's response is to claim that is acceptable oil consumption. Don't pat them on the back too hard.
