Hey Mike! I might have to drop by and check it out when I get home! Which dealer did you get it from?

I got her from Holmes Rental in Millersburg.

She's actually the first one in he province...three on back order, and all sold. But for now she's unique. ;)
They had no 424s in stock...they have 6 324s on the lot now,but I decided on a BX25D KUBOTA seems like a nice rig fordoing some landscaping etc. The 324 was over 4000.00 more then the BX25D that helped in making the choice I did! Good Luck with yours I had a test drive in one and they are a really nice tractor.
Cheers

I stopped by my Yanmar dealer, Knightdale Tractor, today to order a front tire for my Sc2400 and while there I checked out the new models. Nelson from WR Long was there taking some measurements for some new attachments/accessories for the new models.

My first impressions on the 324 was that it's a bit bigger than the Sc2400. It looked about the same size as the SX3100. With having the cylinders on top of the loader arms it will be easier to convert it to a skid steer type quick attach option. It has a step on the left side which seems nice. The seat is quite nice but I did notice that each time I lifted the seat up the rubber pieces that fit in the springs under the seat would stick to the bottom of the seat. So I could see these rubber pieces getting lost at some point.

Another thing I noticed is that when I sat in the seat and put some pressure on the right side handle bar, it had to much give for me. I thought the fender was going to break if I pushed on it to hard. Compared to the Sc2400/2450 it wasn't as stable/sturdy feeling.

Here's some pictures of the 324

nice writeup and pics. Will be interesting to see how the new line performs and is received by the public.

I don't mind plastic fenders, but they should be properly supported...?! probably another way to cut costs....:(

Think I'll stick with my yellow and black for awhile....

Nothing wrong with the yellow and black, had a ex2900 very strong and reliable tractor..would have purchased another one
or a ex3100 if they had them in stock...Kubota BX25 is ok for now!
Cheers!

Trying to locate a 424 in SoCal.
Hoping it is a 2450 on steroids, which by the way is a great tractor.
Need to sell the 2450 w/ less than 200 hours.

Can't seems to find a dealer on area that has the 424 in stock, why, too new, I thought they were suppose to be here by now.

I was at my dealer a month ago, they had a 424 on the lot. Wrong coast tho!

What did you think of it ?

Did it look bigger than the 2450 ?

Thks

Oh yeah, its a good size larger. I dug through my pics, here it is sitting next to a Sx3100, an LX just beside that. You can see the 424 sits a little higher than the 3100. I wish I could have brought it home with me. :D

I recently mentioned on another thread here at TBN that I think the Yanmar 424 is kind of pricey compared to a Mahindra Max 28 for example. (Don't get me wrong, I LIKE the 424 a lot.)

What do you think?

micman32,

If you are out there, as this is an older thread, what was the Holmes Rental service like for the Yanmar 221 and how do you like it now with 2 years experience. I priced one this week with a MMM and a FEL. With incentives it was quoted a roughly $13,350.00 before any trades. I want to know how they treated you generally and if any warranty service was needed how that was handled.

It's between the 221 and a Kubota 2370 from Moore's Lawn & Garden down the street. The Kubota has more HP and more standard equip. e.g. dual range trans., 12 vdc outlet, seat upgrade with reclining back (nice), etc. and if the trade value is equal or better (it should be as I'm trading a J.D. 445 and a Toro Recycler being Moore's is a J.D. dealer) the prices are very close and the Kubota is a larger tractor. Any thoughts are welcome. Thanks.

Hi srsvii.

Yep still here and the 221 is doing fine. Holmes Rental has been great. No problems with warranty etc. I think if I could go back I would have went with a JD 1025r. the 221 is nice but it is a basic machine which does work for me but there are some other features it doesn't have.

Srsvii-
I had a run in with Holmes rental a few years ago with some warranty work.....they were absolute idiots. This was the sugar creek location.....and again a few years ago. Your results may vary.
I will never go back there.
Sounds like the JD might be a better buy.....and I'm a Yanmar guy.

   / 2014 Yanmar Sub-Compacts #37
Oops sorry I meant kubota.

Micman32 & scoutcub,

Thanks for the feedback. It's really amazing because prior to reading your posts I came to the conclusion, despite the much higher price, to go with the JD 1025R. I really need the total auto connect deck due to a very bad back and the JD had more basic features built in incl. that premium suspension seat that I'd have to add with an after market one for Yanmar. The people at Holmes Rental seemed very nice but everyone it when you are buying. I did sericouly consider the Kubota 2370 but still couldn't pul the trigger without the adjustable steering wheel and suspension seat and their auto connect deck, insn't really auto connect. It requires several on and off the tractor movements I am not in a position to be doing. So I'm staying JD. The only decision is Shearer, my preferred at this time or Moore's who also market JD. Nice to have some competition at least for trade in prices.

I take if that both of you are in the area?

So glad to help you out . Overall I have been satisfied with the 221. There are some features I wish it had but it's not a big deal.
I live a few miles south of Millersburg so I have the convenience of being close to the dealer.
I have done business with Moores and I have heard Shearers is great too. My brother bought his JD 2320 there.

micman32,

Thanks for the reply and the voice of positive reinforcement for Shearer's. In inherited my 445, purchased at Moore's, and after some attempts to work with them I switched to Shearers for parts and service work. Shearers nearly always had the parts in stock and picked up and delivered my tractor when service was needed, a welcome benefit, at a cost but available for a guy without a truck or trailer. Beyond JD charging for the name and paint it is good there.

I'm wondering if I would not be better served by buying the tractor unit w/ FEL and MMM and then buying a quick hitch unit for the 3 pt. from an after market company just for price? I'm keeping my 54" blade w/ quick attach which should fit the 1025R nicely so I have my snow plow already on site with four way turning from the seat, great!!!! That is a $2500 saving off the top! I was quoted $ 16,850 for the 1025R w/ MMM 60" and FEL 120 model plus tax before trade. I'm interested in their trade offer as I have one in hand from Yanmar and will have another before approaching Shearer.

Thank you so much for the feed back. If the Yanmar met my needs I'd be on it as I liked the 221, its enough tractor for my needs it just fall short in my specific physical needs and a few amenities the JD offers. By the time I'd add the available options on the 221 I'd be closer to the 1025R price and I would not have a drive over deck or auto connect, deal breakers for me.

I'd sure glad I found this site. What a great resource in comparing and having great members like yourself and many others willing to chip in with valuable information that provides needed facts prior to purchase that are unavailable elsewhere.
