I hope that Missouri football fans aren't living vicariously through Kentucky Football!
I do generally root for SEC teams, because the SEC is "my" conference. I think it has been the dominant conference for the last decade, but I believe that the Big Ten has that crown, at least this year.
Like everything else, it does all come back to money. Which teams are going to sell the most tickets and get the most TV audience is a large part of consideration, when the records are "good enough". I do have some heartburn with Ohio State being in the playoff instead of the conference champ. But, that is the system that we have now, and it is better than what we used to have.
Ironic you say all of that. The 4-team playoff is certainly better than the BCS. Just imagine, Big Ten by far the toughest conference this year, with 4 teams in the top 8
(and the other 4 teams being the rest of the power 5 champs). And if this were the BCS era, there wouldnt be a big ten team playing for the title.
IF we at least had an 8-team playoff, ALL of the power 5 conferences would at least be represented. Sure, 4 would be big 10, but at least all the conference champs would have been in. OSU and MICH at large. Then for #8, currently wisc......I wouldnt argue with the highest ranked group of 5 in their place though, but that would be taking #15 over #8.
With a tough conference such as Big 10 this year, with a possible 3-4 teams in a 8-team playoff, would want to mix things up a little so you arent re-matching conference opponents.
Something like
#1 Bama vs ##8 Wisconsin
#2 Clemson vs #6 Michigan
#3 OSU vs #7 Oklahoma
#4 Washington vs #5 Penn state
