2016 Nissan Titan

I don't see where"any" diesel car or truck makes any sense unless it's at least a one ton truck with a big job to do.
Gas right now is $2.69 gal.,diesel is $3.69 ;you would have to drive 150,000 miles just to break even on fuel let alone the upcharge for the diesel and maybe double for oil changes.
I can't see where the world needs a 5/8 ton truck.

Oh, wow, you guys are paying a bunch more for fuel up there. Gas here is $1.69 and diesel is $2.42. I do agree, though that unless you need towing power, there is no way you are going to come out ahead price wise on a diesel truck. The new Nissan is a very nice looking truck.

I find it kind of funny DP gets this thread started when he has been bashing diesels the last few months, although he doesn't just come out and say its going to be a great truck.

I'm a little unsure of what fuel prices will do in the future. Will diesel stay high? Probably but if I knew the answers to that questions I'd be a rich man trading commodities.

12,000 lb tow rating limiting the truck? I think my 2004 Dodge 3/4 ton is rated for no more than that. Are they building trucks that much better or are they just rating them higher?

I just feel they missed the mark. There are so many trailers rated at 14K out there.

I have said all along if a diesel is needed get one. The problem with the current offerings is they are not enough in the case of the Fiat Ram or too much in the case of the big 3 for 90% of the people 95% of the time. Remember, I have a Diesel F350 but if I could get a truck like this to do what I want I would ditch it ASAP!

12K is the tow rating of the new 2015 F150 Ecoboost. The others gas offerings are right there also. Nissan is not doing enough to differentiate themselves.

Yes, the trucks are that much better. Your 04 Ram and my 06 F350 don't hold a candle to this new stuff. My neighbor just last week got a new F350 SRW diesel. 440hp and 880ft TQ from the factory. It would pull the guts out of your and my trucks combined.

I've always said power doesn't have a lot to do with towing but more to do with the size of the axles, springs brakes, etc. I just wonder if they made a truck exactly like mine today what it would be rated at.

Right now with the price of diesel, Nissan might have missed the mark with this one. Time will tell.

They have all gone off the deep end with trucks getting heavier ever year. My 2011 F150 smokes the specs on my first truck, a 1980 F250 with a 400 ci engine that produced 130 hp (they didn't rate hp back then).

My guess is it would do just as good as your 04 Ram and my 06 F350. Reason is our trucks did not have to meet the SAE tow rating criteria that has since been adopted. I would bet both of our trucks would get beat towing the max advertised loads vs this Titan or any new truck for that matter towing its max advertised load.

3 generations of trucks separate them and the advances are big.

When you look at the size of the axle and brakes and such, I'm not sure. There have probably been improvements made that I just don't know about. I guess my question is, are they just bumping up the ratings or are the making major improvements and then bumping up the ratings?

My question is why doesn't Nissan have more color selections for the Titan? If I'm going to drop $40K on a truck and want a blue one why does it have to be that ugly "Graphite Blue". I want Royal Blue!!!

I wish more people understood that. I'm sure DP is going to jump all over this, but I'd never want more than 10k behind a half ton. There is alot to be said about the weight of the vehicle doing the towing and not getting pushed around by the trailer/load. Especially when the weight distribution is correct. I used to pull around 18k behind a 1 ton SRW and it was too much weight. I pull the exact same trailer with the exact same load and I can't tell its behind me now! I also get a pretty good kick out of my 275HP International that must not have enough power to scale 40k! Although there is something to be said for 530ci (8.6L) motor.

I think there will be alot of people jumping on board for a heavy half. I think that a lot of people are caught in that spot between a 1/2 ton for driving and a 3/4 for towing once in awhile. I'm more curious about the longevity of the drive train though. If it is rock solid, they may have found their niche!
