Tractor
Massey Ferguson 1533
Buddy sold us his 2017 5065e MFWD this past week. It only has right at 50 hours or so and has never seen grease/service or anything else. Not sure if he can locate the owner's manual so is there a link to a pdf where I can download/print one up? Any recommendations off hand that we should do when we receive the tractor out at our place (hoping to have delivered this Thurs evening)?

I plan to grease the tractor and have been using Lucas Red N Tacky on our MF 1533 over the years, but picked up some Lucas X-tra HD Grease (polyurea) and was hoping to use that. It appears it is compatible with Lithium complex greases as it is shear stable polyurea, but I'll probably just squirt enough in the fittings to purge the older stuff out. I want to say JD would have used a polyurea grease at the factory, but can't confirm that as of now. What say you?

Looking forward to using this thing as it is much more of a tractor than the 1533. I'll post the only pic I have of it that was taken yesterday. Originally, we were hoping to buy his older 5045 or 5055 (forget what model it was) without loader and was contemplating on putting a loader on it (there is a thread about that started by me a year or so ago), but this opportunity is perfect. Comes with grapple, OEM bucket and 8' Frontier disk. Deal was too good to pass up even though we were getting by just fine with the 1533. Going to have to find some more projects to do now :)

Nice.....get a factory paper (OEM) owners manual. They are great to be able to write service related notes in them.

Manual on line at
OMSJ13235

and a print button.

unfortunately, that print button does print the manual. Tried that already. If we have to buy one, we will do that. I'll just have to wait to get the serial number to order, I'm sure.

unfortunately, that print button does print the manual.

Why is that unfortunate?

Sorry, I had Kawa engine on the brain.

I guess it isn't if that's what you are doing, but I like to put my hands on books to read/look over. Wanted to familiarize myself with this machine a bit before hopping on it this weekend.

Are those 16.9-28 tires on the rear? Or 14.9-28's?
Maybe it's the new style round fenders that make them look different?

Edit: Dooh, maybe it's because they're R4's they look different.

Yea, R4s...I was hoping they were R1 for field work and we are about to start thinning some of the lower areas out this year, but our Massy has R4s on it and we haven't had much of a problem. Our soil is sandy, but most of the area we have been working is the high ground. Buddy that plants our corn/sunflower for us has 2 5055e that he uses and his have R1s. I doubt we'll ever need to swap tires, but if we did, we'd still be ahead of the game by $10k for what we paid for this machine.

Got her delivered to our place today...I'll put her through her paces a bit on Saturday. Plan to swing by the JD dealer and get a gallon of break in oil in case I need to add some as the previous owner hasn't touched it and I highly doubt he's even checked the level. This tractor is right at about a year old and about 50 hours...should I do an oil change? I'd put break in oil back in and keep running it until 200 hours?

A few pics...

Very nice looking machine. So nice, that I wouldn't suspect any abuse, and would not worry at all about the lack of maintenance in those short hours.

Just for what it's worth. I always assumed that break-in oil was a higher quality oil and it couldn't hurt to leave it in there, but it is more abrassive to properly work in engine components. Who knew?

Ran tractor for first time this weekend. Had 62 hours on it. Topped it off with some break in oil (half a qt, maybe) and dealer said he壇 just go to reg oil when we do oil change. I plan to do that fairly soon.

Few things of note...this tractor has power reverser transmission which is pretty awesome. It痴 way bigger than our Massey 1533 so that is taking some getting used to. The 8 disk sticks out past width of tractor so it snags trees easily...bent a shaft Saturday :). All in all, this thing is nice and can稚 wait to get back out there and play around with it some more. Buddy should be planting corn soon with sunflower to follow after that (for dove field).
