220 Years Gone In 30 Minutes

It is amazing to think this barn was in use during the War of 1812, Civil War etc. If it could talk, the stories it would tell.

Yep. My interest would be the simple little things inside a structure like that. Maybe a nail partially driven in a post? Wonder what they used that for? Wear marks on posts or doorways, wonder what made those?

Interesting thread. We had the house torn down a few years ago where several generations of my family lived or grew up, no idea how old it was but my grandfather- who was born there in 1898- claimed it was pre-Revolutionary era.
A lot of the boards in it were 23” wide... back then every tree over 35” diameter on the butt belonged to King George so you were in deep “””” if you had wider boards.

After the revolution they no longer belonged to the king. Now if it predated that then that story makes sense.

Isn't that what "Pre Revolutionary" means?

Yup....lots of "king boards" in my old house.

That is amazing, both your video and the operator's skill! :salute:

I've got a good friend that can operate almost anything. I hire him to do Excavator work frequently. He's a treat to watch. I've often rode in his bucket to get from one side of a culvert trench to the other. His machine is that size or maybe one size bigger. He says the bucket is simply his hand.

A talented/efficient operator is worth his weight in gold!

I hired a guy who did good work, but he did not plan/use machine efficiently.
Wasted hours....that I paid for!

The good friend I spoke of has his BIL working for him. He runs the TLB. He's almost worthless. I can hire the large Excavator with the good operator cheaper than I can hire the smaller TLB. Even though there is $40 per hr difference in the rate.....

It's just like anything else. After some experience it gets to be just an extension of your arm and it is easy. It just takes time to be a good operator. That being said some people will never be good operators.

As in my friend's BIL. He's been doing it 30 years.....

The guy I was referring to in my post here, was a heavy equipment operator instructor.
Nice work, but very inefficient use of machine.
