Your right, O2 & N2 atomspheric gases are both polar covalent bonded molecules due to their outer shell electron orbital interactions.

Like I said though.. There are 'all fuel' spark ignition engines that burn diesel, kero, and distalate / TVO.. I'd guess at that point they fall into the same problems as a gas / spark engine.. and not as 'safe' as a diesel engine using compression ignition.. correct?

Anything that has a molar ratio of more fuel to less air is going to result in a higher percentage of CO production, including everything you stated and allot more like gas hot water heaters, gas stoves, sterno stoves, charcoal grills, etc.

Carbon monoxide poisoning problems inside homes fro these items epidemiologically results in many many more deaths than any accidental or suicidal exposures on agricultural equipment does.

Last year our molar ratio was too high. They tunneled under the front yard and made a mess of the grass. I bought one of those spear traps but never seemed to spear any. I didn't think I could convince them to chew bubble gum to plug their insides. There have been many other methods suggested here in the past. My most successful approach was smashing down all the tunnels, come back in an hour and find one that was re-activated, watch for new movement, and quickly dig them up. They DO NOT like being in the sun.

I do, however, believe I understand why connnecting my diesel tractor's exhaust to the burrow was unsuccessful! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I feel old now too.. I use 'noble gasses'.. course.. I also use the term 'accumulator'.. and I'm not refering to an A/C system. ( registers.. )
