2210 overheating

I mow 7.5 acres weekly with my brother-in-laws 2210/62" mid mount mower. If I don't stop every 10/12 mins. and clean the grill screen and radiator screen of debris the tractor will overheat shortly. Seems like I spend more time cleaning than I do mowing!! Wondering if anyone else has this problem?

I have an X495, and I also have to clean the screens off a few times if it's really dusty and/or lots of leaves and clippings flying around. What I usually do is stop, shut off the mower deck, drop the throttle to the lowest setting, and then wipe the screens. When the engine is at low idle, it pulls in less air and that makes it easier to wipe. Only takes a few seconds.

Fortunately, my 670 and 790 Deere's never ran hot when brush cutting, even if the radiator grill got pretty clogged.

However, quite a few tractors can get hot when mowing in a field, so you're not alone in that regard.

It does seem like you're cleaning too often. Are you serious about 10-12 minutes? Are you cleaning the grill and radiator screen (under the hood or behind the battery) both? I suggest you also blow out the fins on your radiator (low pressure air), screen and grill before you mow next time. You may be cleaning just one of the three areas on a regular basis.

Brushing off the exterior screen every hour, or so, should be fine, but only if you blow out the internal screen and the radiator every 10-12 hours. If you are overheating it is most likely your radiator passageways or your internal screen. Use a compressor with around 100 PSI to blow out your radiator fins if you are not doing that already.

Edit: Ooops... what Roy said ...except you can blow up to 100 PSI no problem

Just curious, since the 2210 has no temperature gauge, how do you know it's overheating? What are the symptoms that you're experiencing? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

My 2210 has a idiot light cluster oil,temp and alternator/ battery next to the fuel gauge. The Temp light must be going on.

Thanks for the response guys, When I am mowing I carry my Stihl leaf blower in the bucket. Every 10/12 mins I back the engine down to idle and blow off the grille screen, open the hood and blow thru the radiator from the front & back. also blowing the debris from between the batt. & the radiator. If I don't faithfully do this the idiot lite will come on shortly. On two occasions the lite came on and by the time i idled the engine and opened the hood I got a face full of antifreeze from the overflow tank. The tractor has about 160 hours on it so the radiator should be ok.

I could be wrong, but I think there is something going on with your BIL's cooling system. If you were brush-hogging in waist deep grass, then I might understand some extra care needed, but 7.5 acres should be within the cooling capabilities of just mowing grass. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Your right, that's about what I cut if not more and don't have any problems with over heating. Only clean the screens after I finish mowing. Never have to stop ever 15 - 20 minutes to clear the grill. My pastures are about 7”-10” high and the cuttings are usually pretty dry and fly up on to the grill. I have the feeling your right maybe something else is wrong.
