I just purchased a Westendorf TA-160 loader kit for my JD2240. It came with everything needed (except I have to convert to vertical exhaust). The are three hoses “to tractor” (supply/return/“power beyond”) from the two spool joystick. Where do I connect these? I have three steel hydraulic lines running along the right side (one with a tee going to what looks power steering?)

You need to rethink the loader valve. sounds like it's probably set up for open center which won't work on your tractor. You need a closed center valve or a closed center plug for this valve. The return should go to a ported transmission filter cover. The pressure line you can tee into that line you mentioned that also supplies the steering. Usually there will be a spot back near the remote valve(s) or the rockshaft line where you can find a way to tie in.

I agree with Harry. JD 2240 has closed-center hyd system which requires 2 hoses to operate FEL control valve. FEL control valve will need a closed center conversion plug with inner seal installed. Pressure hose should be attached behind pressure control valve on RH side of tractor just behind ported hyd filter cover.

If the loader valve supplied has the power beyond feature just cap the power beyond port off. That would be the same as converting to closed center.

I disagree to convert open center valve with PBY feature then a closed center conversion plug needs to be installed & tank line hose removed & orifice capped. Only capping PBY orifice & not installing a closed center conversion plug with inner seal will cause closed center hyd pump to cavitate from lack of sufficient amount of oil being supplied to front hyd pump.

How is installing the power beyond plug different than just leaving power beyond sleeve in place and then capping or plugging the power beyond port where you would typically connect the power beyond line. There is no flow with power beyond port plugged same as installing the “factory” power beyond plug in the valve.

Yes you still require the tank or return line connection.

Thanks for correcting me. After some thought I agree you're correct in that there's not any difference between capping PBY adapter plug & installing a CC conversion plug. I was taught many yrs ago to install CC plug.

Installing the CC plug is the normal accepted procedure but in this case he has the valve so tried to provide a “simple” alternative solution vs trying to find CC plug.

And if you’re like me it can challenging to teach an old dog a new trick..

So, if I am understanding you correctly… Return line from FEL valve to the ported filter cover, the pressure line from the port behind the filter cover to the FEL valve, and cap off the PB at the valve port? I have seen some illustrations where they Tee at the filter cover and run another hose to the SCV side port (with a kit). Is that to increase overall flow to the SCV?
