chipsndust,

Curious how you came up with a diode problem. When I look at the wiring diagram, it doesn't show a diode in the circuit. I ordered a diode from JD p# LVU801851 as you suggested. Is this the same part # you are talking about? It's nothing like what I pulled off the connector on my tractor. The upper diode off my tractor is a 3 amp and the one JD sold me is i.5 amp and I'm curious what part you used and if the diode is the fix?

Bill

Bill:

I don't have the 2305 anymore. Still have the schematics though, which show the diodes, attached here.

Going by memory here, I determined that the problem was a diode by doing a search on TBN. I remember that there were three diodes taped to the harness; they were a little hard to find, completely covered with black electrical tape. Pretty sure the larger, 3A diode was lowest on the harness, the two smaller (about the size of your little finger nail) were higher on the harness. I actually unplugged both 1.5A diodes and switched them that's how I determined that the upper one was not working.

Good luck

beemerdr,
Not sure where to look for all the way backto the beginning. I found the diodes where chipnsdust said I'd find the them and both of them are 3 amp and tested OK with my digital meter set on diode checking. Guess I'll keep looking. I believe my problem is a broken wire. Going out to run through the wiring and see if I can find a bad 1.5 and/or a broken wire.
Thanks,
Bill

chipsndust,

Thanks, I'll keep looking for the 1.5 . I have the wiring diagrams already and I'll check to make sure mine are for the 2305. Do you have the diode JD part #?

beemerdr,

I'm looking at the blue diode. Didn't look close enough to cipsndust's photo to see he was circling the little black one. Changed it and all is working now. Thanks for your patience with this old dude. Love to get rid of the 2305 but I'm trying to get a garage ($) before I spend money on a different tractor. Writing chipsndust next.

Thanks again,
Bill

Chipsndust,

You're the man. If I would have looked closer to your beautiful pictures, I'd have seen it was the little black diode you circled and not the big blue one. Everything is working fine now after changing the little black diode.

Thanks for your post,
Bill

Glad you got it fixed.

Overall, I was pleased with my 2305. That diode failure and a stick in the transmission cooling fan were the only problems I had.

Recently traded it for a 1025R, mainly for the auto-connect mower and auto-connect PTO.

There have been several posts concerning the failed diode which causes the turn signal and hazard lights to quit working.

Since it recently happened to me, I decided to post pictures which may help in replacing the failed diode.

To access the diode, you need to remove screws and raise the instrument panel, remove the throttle handle, remove a cotter pin and disconnect the emergency brake "paddle" and remove screws and pull the cowling back.

The diodes were taped to the outside of the wiring harness. The hazard/directional diode is the "upper" one.

New diode $8.00 from JD.

Pic 1 shows the location of the two 1.5 amp diodes, the failed one was the one highest on the harness

Pic 2 shows the throttle handle removed, emergency brake handle disconnected from linkage, the cowl pulled back, and the location of the failed diode

Pic 3 shows a close up of the location of the failed diode

I love this new search function! This sounds like my problem, but I want to be sure. While plowing snow at 4AM at some point this winter I 'hooked' the left hand lamp containing tail light and flasher bulb on my mailbox- smashed it all to X@/!. Fast forward a few weeks and find me purchasing a new lamp assembly from JD. Install the new lamp and make what I think are the proper connections. The small bulbs in the assembly on both sides (new on left and existing on right) come on when the taillights should be on, but the larger bulbs for the flashers do not ever light. This is also true when the directional toggle switch on the dash is actuated. I have checked the fuses for continuity and they are fine. The bulbs have also been checked and are fine. Is the most likely problem a diode? When the flashers are switched on I hear the characteristic blink-blink-blink etc sound, but nothing is happening with the bulbs!

Thanks in advance to the TBN collective brain !

Frank

Installed the new diode today. It currently costs $10.38 + tax at the JD dealer, but, solved the problem as explained by chipsndust! I really appreciated the photos and can vouch for the veracity of this repair tip!
