2305 diode replacement for hazard and directional lights

/ 2305 diode replacement for hazard and directional lights #21
Your post looks like it might help my brother resolve his issue. He was just telling me about it yesterday and I told him I'd do some research for him given I've owned a JD now for over 29 years (420 for 26 years and 1026R for 3 years now).
Anyways, I found the prints to his tractor and I'm curious if anyone knows exactly what diodes are the suspect ones shown in the prints. There are 8 diodes in the Electrical Schematic. Studying the prints I'm guessing the V4 & V8 diodes may be cause of concern if the reverse bias broke down on both of those diodes and possibly even V3. Yet I don't see any one particular set of diodes related to the flasher/turn signal ckt.

I saw the pictures showing the location of the failing diodes but was trying to find the equivalent in the print to see what wires they should be tied to.

Thanks in advance if anyone can provide this info.

Thanks for your help locating the diode , I found it and replaced it . Tried the flasher switch and turn signals and all worked fine . But when the engine was running and I turned on flashers (because I was in road) it shut down engine almost immediately. I blew a 15A fuse in the main fuse block on right side ,under hood. But replacing the fuse would not let it start. So I towed it to the garage , and took it apart to see what else might have blown , and it looked like it had melted the plug to some degree that the diode plugged into. I pulled new diode out and cleaned plug w/o-ring pick , and put in old diode and tractor ran and everything worked but flashers , just like before I started. What would have caused the diode not to trip, and blow a 15A fuse. Is there something else I should be looking for. For now it is running and snow blowing without the flashers , The way the snow keeps coming I am not going to experiment any more till spring. THANKS

The definition of a diode is a semiconductor device with two terminals, typically allowing the flow of current in one direction only.

Your wording cause the diode not to trip I do not understand as it is not a fuse or a circuit breaker. You indicated that it melted the plug, which could have caused the diode to burn up the diode allowing the current to flow in the wrong direction and blow the fuse. Many volt meters have a setting to test diodes.

I have attached a wiring diagram for the 2305 that I found in another post. Also look at thread 12 in this post for a diagram. As you can see from the wiring diagram there are several diodes, which diode are you having problems with?

I have included a link, which does a better job of explaining how a diode works, than I can do. One thing to learn from the link is how the symbol shows which direction it allows current to flow.

Hopes this helps

I am a new member and found this post just recently. I have a 2006 JD 2305 and my hazard and directional lights quit working. I tried replacing bulbs and fuses but no luck. After reading your post, I purchased the diode you suggested and it worked perfectly. It was an old post, 06/11/09 I believe, but your directions were great. The only problem I had was getting the cowl back into place after replacing the diode. It took some effort but finally was able to reinstall the cowl. Everything works like a charm. I know your post was quite old, but I wanted to let you know it still works like a charm. Thanks for the original post.

Great for TBN to have your positive results. Helps the archives that for a large part are "timeless".

:welcome: to TBN

Hope to hear more from you, and we like pics.. :D

I was all ready to replace the diode last year and then they mysteriously started working again.

I know this is an old thread, but it was a great find when my flashers quit working. To help someone else out, I did a quick video last night showing where the diode is and how to get at it.

I bought a 2007 2305 and the turn signals don't work. The flashers work fine. If I put the turn signal on, I hear the flasher noise blink, but the rear lights don't blink. I checked the wiring in the rear and the bulbs are fine. Could this be a diode? the 4 way flashers work fine.

Sounds like the flasher for the turn signals is in the light control switch. Is this correct? Could it be in there where the problem is?
