I'd stick by the owners manual recomendations (and have). Just changed the oil at 150 hrs. for my 3rd time. I'd want to have this documented for any warranty issues. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Well you actually haven't stuck by the manual. The manual recommends all subsequent oil changes after the initial 50 hour to be at 200 hours.

Don't blame him for changing the oil at 150 hours, which I guess is 100 hours after the inital 50 hour change. Two hundred hours is a LOONG time on the engine oil. I plan to change mine again on my 4010 at about 125 hours after the initial change (to Mobil 1) at 13 hours.

Take a look at the oil at 50 hrs . . . you'll be wanting to change it. As for the warranty issues, Deere even states in their manual: IMPORTANT: Avoid damage! Operating in extreme conditions may require more frequent service intervals. Engine components may become dirty or plugged when operating in extreme heat, dust or other severe conditions. Engine oil may lose efficiency if machine is operated constantly at slow or low engine speeds or with frequent short trips. I for one would rather be explaining how I serviced my tractor more frequently, than why I stretched out service intervals . . . /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

You've missed the point. The point is you were advising to strictly follow the manual when you (again, rightfully) aren't.

"My Manual" states to change what I put in my original post. (Trans. oil and filter @ 50 hours). Engine oil and filter @ every 200 hours. That is what "my manual" states. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

At the top:
IMPORTANT: Avoid damage! Operating in extreme conditions may require more frequent service intervals:

· Engine components may become dirty or plugged when operating in extreme heat, dust or other severe conditions.

· Engine oil may lose efficiency if vehicle is operated constantly at slow or low engine speeds or with frequent short trips.

This applies to some. I will be changing my oil soon (51 hours now) I usually change my gas engines when the oil starts to look dirty. That won't work on the diesel. I will not go past 100 hours. I think it's very important to be sure the rings are seated. Mine hasn't used any oil yet. I'll probably go with the break in oil.

Seems strange to me Deere is still using break in oil(non detergent). No auto manufacturers do it any more. Some even come with synthetic in them.

Several of us responding have 2210s (very simular model but does have a different engine). That sure seems like a long time! Don't think that I would wait that long. To me, same thoughts as automobile manufacturers recommending 5k or longer for oil changes when most of us follow 3k. )</font>

I thought it seemed like a long time before the first oil change to. I will change it before then, maybe around 100 hours to be safe, unless the dealer tells me different.
