My best guess is that this zerk is used to grease this shaft when it is on the tractor and you don't have access to the other grease fitting on the cross. (especially in the winter months when you might want to give the joint a squirt or two of grease) They must be connected, because I know that John deere wouldn't put an extra fitting there for nothing!

Nope, that's not it. At first I thought the same thing, but I grease the cross first until the grease was coming out from the 4 cups, and then I move to the zerk on the yoke, gave it 4 shots and nothing came out. I wonder if this particular yoke was originally built for a different application, and they decide to use it for this shaft.

Would have to be winter coolant, cause it wouldn't work in minus 0 degrees. But seriously I can't keep pumping grease in there, especially if it goes into the drive shaft. I'm worry that it may cause it to unbalance the shaft.

Question! Can anybody tell me what that grease nipple on the surface of the yoke, is for.

Yep, that greases the "Ball & Socket" on the yoke tip....If you look closely in that "double yoke" (thats actually a CV Yoke) you will see the 2 Yokes are actually connected together...

Supper is on the table so I'll have to cut this post short, but I'll look for a pic to show you...

I'm not sure I understand. There are 3 zerk at that end. One for each cross + the one on the yoke. Looking forward to the pic.

the added grease fitting is to grease the ends of the drive shaft
see http://www.procarcare.com/images/shar/encyclopedia/8852LG08.gif
the end of the ball stud yoke and rear flange in the picture touch, you can also google double cardigen joint.

ChrsDrn and Spudland_Dave, you guys are the best.;) I finally see it. Thank you very much cause I'm not sure I would've kept greasing it without knowing where that grease was going. Never realize that the ball stud and flange were touching. The pic really help. Thanks again.:)

I hope this makes sense....take a look at the pic I've attached...

One yoke has a Ball, the other yoke has a socket....they meet in the middle "inside" that "Double Yoke"....
So when your greasing that zerk, your putting grease in the socket end. Typically the "socket" yoke has the grease fitting...

If this still doesnt make sense, I just rebuilt a CV Shaft for a project...I can take pics of that tomorrow or so...

I could use this retro for my 2320. Looks like something I could possibly buy from TSC. Does anyone know?
