My best guess is that this zerk is used to grease this shaft when it is on the tractor and you don't have access to the other grease fitting on the cross. (especially in the winter months when you might want to give the joint a squirt or two of grease) They must be connected, because I know that John deere wouldn't put an extra fitting there for nothing!![]()
Nope, that's not it. At first I thought the same thing, but I grease the cross first until the grease was coming out from the 4 cups, and then I move to the zerk on the yoke, gave it 4 shots and nothing came out. I wonder if this particular yoke was originally built for a different application, and they decide to use it for this shaft.
