2555/2565 EGR system issues.

So has anything come out for a solution to these problems, my dealer says he hasn't heard anything.

I am a Mahindra dealer, what my service manager has said is the EGR COOLER's have a hairline crack that may only be present when the tractor warms up. EGR Cooler +EGR WILL HAVE TO BE REPLACED> Reason being the EGR cooler is burning coolant and stuffing the oily brown residue into the EGR clogging it up. No Technical Bulletin has been released . Pm me with questions on this model if you have any questions. ALSO it is highly recommend to install a restrictor into the coolant Line Going to the Engine Oil Cooler Mounted on the Right side of engine if in seat.

* I WILL POST THE SPECS FOR THE COOLANT Restrictor tomorrow, This Is Certified Information Coming from Mahindra
***Also some Inside information has been that they are working on EPA approval for a software update for these models because they are running to rich from factory

so 4 issues with these on most tractors. The Vendor Making The EGR Cooler
knew they are bad Mahindra is no longer buying from this Vendor
***Call your dealer and tell them to replace the EGR cooler and EGR and reset codes and that will make a huge different, as well as install the restrictor which I will post specs on tomarrow. PM me with any questions. I handle Mahindra Service/Warranty and We've Encountered all these problems above and found the solutions.

^ look up

There is Beta software being tested right now. So far it seems to be working. Need to get some really cold weather to see if we get a good result from the updated software.FYI the software will not effect the cold engine temps. FYI there were a few early production units that had bad EGR coolers. This issue was traced to the vendor and has been adressed.

The Coolant restrictor will solve some issues, Mahindra may release a front cowl protector I have pictures but cant post on here. pm me if you want to see it

*I forgot to put the specs for the restrictor that gets installed to the outer line before going into the *engine oil cooler *. It gets inserted into the line, I will try to post specs and more details early next week

We are going to be trying a beta version of the software update, at that point there should not be any further egr issues. if you have any questions pm me

*also update*

replacing egr does not work, Mahindra suggest running tractor at higher rpm to prevent blockage. Most egr coolers and egr's are working fine. The software update will be available to everyone in coming months this I am sure of with information iv received from national service manager at Mahindra.

The jury is still out on the Beta software and and this point not intended for release at this time. Its being test on several problem tractors through out the country. However it does correct the stumbling/smoke issue @ the mid engine RPM when cold. I suspect its do to the software keeping the GPs on longer after start up. On the other hand it does not correct the EGR/MIL coming on if the engine RPM is set to low. As far as a restrictor is concerned my DSR said that there was no external way to restrict the coolant on the 2555/2565 models. Has anyone done it??:confused3:

5/8 BOLT
CUT TO 1 INCH LONG
Drill 5/16 HOLE insert into hose, clamp down

3/8 OR 7/16 (Not sure on which bolt, make sure it fits snuggly into interior of hose
Cut to 1 inch length
¼ INCH HOLE DRILLED THROUGH , use hose clamp to securely hold restrictor into hose

HERE IS PIC OF THE LINE RESTRICTOR SHOULD BE INSTALLED On Outside Hose going into *Engine oil Cooler* Pm if you have any questions on this improvement

ALSO OUR EGR WAS FINE AND COOLER WAS NOT CRACKED, REPROGRAMMING AND ENGINE TEMP ARE MAJOR ISSUES . TO AVOID GOING THREW ALL THE STEPS WE DID TALK TO YOUR REGIONAL SERVICE MANAGER ABOUT GETING A REPROGRAMED ECU IF POSSIBLE. BUMP

The restrictor mentioned is not for the 2555/2565 model tractor.I just confirmed that with my DSR. Your probably working on a 3500 series tractor that has a bypass @ the gooseneck. These tractors are/were having temp/heat issues. The issue with the 2555/2565 is there is enough air being drawn in and blown over the engine in cold weather to prevent the engine from getting hot enough to open the thermostat. Mahindra has no cowl change in process but there is a dealer experimenting with a bra to restrict the air flow.

the coolant restrictor can be used in a 2555 that is under temp, although not a huge improvement will be made by this. I have a picture of the air restrict bra ...that may help. the programming update solved the rich running conditions slash egr problems for us.

Has Mahindra said anything about making the program update available? I'd love to see the bra your talking about.

At this time no. Its being tried on a few troublesome tractors. The results so far are mixed. The Beta software is only showing a slight improvement. Mahindra can't tweek it to much without putting the engine out of EPA specifications for emission compliance. The bottom line is"keep the RPMs up" Don't idle around over long periods.

that's exactly what I figured out to Jabonee... I don't know If I am a firm believer in there keep rpm story. one tractor no longer shows egr codes while the other one has constant issues with mil and check engine light relating to the egr filling with unburned fuel. :banghead:

Are you sure its wet and unburned fuel. The first time I pulled the EGR valve I thought it was wet with fuel too. Further inspection revealed it was just shiny like gloss black paint. It fooled me!:confused3:

No one should be surprised with these issues. With this engine design, you should not be idling this tractor. It needs a higher rpm. (Thank you EPA) to run efficient and clean. If it had a DPF a lower idle would get more regens. Hopefully the problems can be worked through.

I've got an open station 2555 HST so I don't have the cab heat issues. I'm at about 25hrs. The MIL light stays on just about all of the time. When I talked to my dealer about it he wasn't concerned because it wasn't flashing and told me how to reset it. I've spent the time to reset but it just comes back on within the next time or 2 that I use my tractor. It will go off on its own occasionally but doesn't stay off for long.

My fuel gauge doesn't work. They can fix it when I take it in. I'm not making a special trip for that.

I'm also having the drained battery issue. It will start fine 5-10 times just fine then nothing. If its cold out and the glow plugs stay on for more than a few seconds the battery won't have enough umph to turn it over. After throwing the battery charger on it for awhile it will start fine for another 5-10 starts. I thought it was a bad battery too so I took it out and had it tested at Advance. They said it's dead but otherwise just fine. Told me to just charge it back up. I didn't want to keep messing with it so I took my 1yr old battery out of my boat and stuck it in there. Worked fine and I thought I had fixed the problem. Then about the 10th time I started it, DEAD! I wonder if the alternator isn't working correctly to keep the battery charged up? I was looking around and I have a white connector on one of the negative battery cables that isn't connected to anything. I couldn't see where it was supposed to connect to though.

Check your fuses.Make sure ALT fuse has not failed. Low Batt. voltage will cause ECU codes.
