You guys think that 3.57/gal is bad, move to canada, were at 4.69/gal. And our dollar is at 1.04 US. Who do you think is getting screwed here? We pay way more for everything up here from fuel to housing. Trust me, i would rather pay 3.57/gal than 4.69/gal.

No kidding ! I see so many Canucks coming here to NH to shop for clothes, etc. to get out of your crazy taxation. Gotta pay for your healthcare system somehow I guess. We won't be far behind you.

I see diesel here for $4.01 to $4.05 now.

I'd be glad to visit Canucks to fill up my fuel tank in Canada. Hm ... too far :confused3:
We pay $7.42/gal for petrol and $6.93/gal for diesel fuel (recalculated from liters) in my area.

Just to add some fule to Rob-D's comments, a few weeks ago I seen a new article that GM and Ford has increased their sales by some percentage. The problem was fuel efficient cars had dropped by 25% and gas guzzlers went up accordingly. I do have a truck and use it to HAUL stuff once a month or so, but other then that is sits, all other transportation happens with a car that gets 50MPG. I don't like $4.00/gal gas, but it obvious that it doen's really bother most Americans because we as a whole are still driving as much and getting our gas guzzlers.

I have to have a 4WD pickup for our farms as do most people in my area, so driving a non "gas guzzler" isn't really a viable option.

So our regular gas is now $3.799; make me wish I had one of our Ford Escorts back. One of my brothers drives a Ford F550, lives in a 38' fifth-wheel and went from central Texas to central Washington state a couple of weeks ago. He said the most he paid for diesel on that trip was $4.259.

I'm paying $4.61/gallon up here in Manitoba Canada for gas. Diesel I don't know cause I buy from a cardlock and don't see the price until a month down the road when the statement comes.

I'm happy that some can take advantage of adding things like solar panels but to a lot of people that's not an option. Even the breaks the government and states are giving are only temporary. I looked into it and it just didn't pay to go solar. I needed $30k worth of panels and another $6k to have it installed. To get the government discount you needed to have it professionally installed which basically meant free installation. But when you did the match and figured out how much I would pay for power or the average lifespan of the solar panels I would make more if I just left the money invested.

BTW we have lots of oil in this country and in friendly countries near us. What we don't have is a government willing to let people go after it nor are they letting the building more refineries to turn it into gas in this country. Both need to happen today if we want to feel an impact within the next few years. I don't see enough people in Washington understanding this. It's going to take another recession before most understand that we need gas and diesel at a reasonable price in this country. We have no other options and nothing is going to be ready for years to come.

What happened to this country? What happened to the ingenuity that built it? Tough guys like Teddy Roosevelt and Harry Truman who got up and said what they thought? Edison, George Westinghouse who built the electrical grid and Henry Ford who put people to work.
We've turned into a bunch of cry babies.

All you can drive is a gas guzzler?

OK, now you know gas isn't going to go down, the government isn't going to help and you either make it or sink on your ability and ingenuity. This is a given, we already know what's taking place.

What are you going to do? Fix up a cheap car to use everyday, get together with your neighbors so each of you only have to go into town once a month?

Because if you don't have an answer, a plan you're sunk. You've had years to figure it out, to change your thinking but you're still driving the gas guzzle and saying 'I can't do anything'.

Who do you think is going to fix it for you? I'm all ears.

What I'm being too tough? I asked myself those questions that's why I'm not in that box. If I can do it so can everyone else.

Not true. The government gives 30% discount for geothermal and solar whether you install it or a pro does. I'm putting in geo right now. I've been monitoring my land to see where the best place to put wind is and that's goes in after the solar incentive from my Electric Coop who is giving out grants. When I'm done putting in 6 to 6.8k of solar I'll come close to breaking even. That means next year I won't pay a nickel for energy to run my house. In fact I'll get money back from my grid tie. I'm actually getting paid to sell power back to the electric company who's paying me to heat my house.

30k for an install? How much power do you need? Solar equipment goes for under 3 bucks a watt (under two for China panels) for 30k that means you need 10kw of power, that's 2.4 million watts a month!

That's the problem. We don't say, "Hey, I have to cut my usage." We say, "Let's see I use 3 million watts and I can't live without that much, so I guess I can't afford alternate energy because it's too expensive because if I can't run my 55" TV it's no good to me."

Did you say, "I can save 6 grand if I do it myself. Maybe it's a good thing to learn how and get together with my friends and family to do a group buy for $2.25 a watt?"

Did you think, "I wonder if I can put microhydro in my stream, wind on the top of my barn?"

Just remember that the breaks the government and state gave you are because you went first. They can't offer those kinds of breaks to everyone or even 10% of the US population. At some point people will have to pay full price. I'm always glad to see people who are in a place in their lives to take advantage of what's offered today but not everybody is in that place or will be able to in the future.
