3/4 ton vs. 1 ton

Used prices on diesel trucks are crazy. I had a '13 Chevy Silverado LTZ crew cab with the Duramax. It only had 20k miles and I was planning on keeping it for a long time. Then the dealer called and I was shocked at the numbers they were talking about towards a '15 model. They gave me KBB retail for it and crazy money off a '15. Then a guy flew in from the East coast to buy my trade (he called me to ask questions). I didn't have the heart to tell him I didn't pay a whole lot more for a new '15.

You did the right thing by buying new. Congrats on a nice truck!

Did you get the C&C or just delete the pickup box? Wondering about what HP motor you got.

Nice truck. One like it is in my future. Maybe a year or 2 still.

Congrats on the new truck, it looks great! When I went to a flatbed I missed being able to just chuck stuff in the back. If I ever get mine out of the shop I'm going to build some 8-10" removable stake boards for the sides and back.

I got the Cab/Chassis. It has 320 hp, which is at least 30 less than the pickup models. Some are 350 and some are 385. I did notice the weaker power compared to my 2500 pickup, but I think I will be okay with it.

I did build some 8" stake boards today with 2x8's. I didn't have time to get pics and they are not painted yet. I'm headed to a job site that is 275 miles from my shop, and I plan to stay there until the rain stops me so I don't know when I'll get back to paint them.

I also ordered some nerf bars aka running boards. Yesterday, when I stepped on the running boards, and they weren't there, I got a nice bruise the size of a softball on my shin....

i've seen where some CC are derated.

Yeah, the manufacturer's know that most of the diesels that they sell don't get used for much, so they crank up the power. The CC trucks do get used, so longevity outranks power. There's a lesson to be learned there somewhere.

Your fuel mileage will probably improve once she gets broke in some.

I finally got a chance to read the owner's manual a bit and it said that performance and mileage might improve after about 6000 miles. It also said there is no 'break in' period for the Cummins as far as pulling a load.

At the rate I'm going I'll be at 6000 miles soon. I've been driving it 11 days and I have over 2000 miles on it, and I hit the road again tomorrow at 4 am.
