3 cylinder vs 4 cylinder

Our sailboat had a Westerbeke 4-154 diesel (Perkins clone) normally aspirated, we were thinking about repowering with a turbo Yanmar of about the same displacement. The Yanmar would have been maybe 25% more fuel efficient than the old Westerbeke. This would have been a significant improvement since we only carried 75 gallons of fuel (we were blue water sailors.)

Had a pair of Ford/Lehman 135HP diesels in a 44' DeFever motor yacht.
2 gal. per hour per engine, with 900 gal. fuel capacity.
Great efficiency, and great range!

Talk about buggering up a saying. It's "There is no replacement for displacement". Not an engine expert, but thinking maybe that's when Fuel was cheap. Heck, no problem if it comes out of the engine unburned.

The 3 cyl. Kubota has that same addiction

None of my three 3-cylinder Kubota's seemed to? Heck they seem to just sip fuel.

I have a bunch of little 3 cyl Kubota Engines in my Steiner 430 and various Generators. They seem good on fuel.

I still have an Asbestos lined hairdryer. You can have that too.

Thanks. Funny how it seems people pronounce that with a p.

It seems like my mx 5100 uses a lot of fuel for no more time than I use it
