For "fun and relaxation" I'd suggest going the easy route and buy a splitting maul. ;)
Seriously, by the time you get the splitter out of storage, hooked up to the 2520 and a small amount of wood split, then clean it up, unhook it, and store it out of the way.....you would have a fair amount of wood split by hand.
Having fun and relaxation. :D

I can split a night's worth of stove wood in ten minutes with my beer powered maul.

thanks Kennyg, let me know how your adapter works out. If im not able to use a quick hitch i will need to look at one that will work with it. I know Ramsplitter makes one that will.

Cycle time may be a little slow, but if you are working mostly by yourself, it will be plenty fast. There is a difference between the splitter keeping up with you and you keeping up with the splitter. The latter can get you hurt.

You should be fine with the PH 13 ton or ramsplitter 16.

I use the Northern tool 13 ton on a 2305 works great. I cut about the same as you are thinking. For firepit and fireplace. With your tractor you should have better flow? So with the 2 way cutting action it will be all you can do to keep up with it. I also like to run as many attachments as I can with 1 motor. Good luck with your choice

To clarify my comment on the quick hitch, the Power Horse has a single top link pin hole about 17 inches above the lower pins. The quick hitch standard is 15 inches. I can actually use my HF directly on it because the "hook" is adjustable but I would have to move the hook to a different position from the other implements. My prospective fix is just to drill an additional top link hole 2 inches lower in the bracket on the splitter.

I'm not sure but I think these splitters have a flow limiting orifice or something in the system such that a larger tractor won't run them any faster. The rating for the 13 ton says "3gpm max". I think this is why my 2320 doesn't run it any faster at 3200 rpm than it does at 2300 rpm. I would guess that performance would be the same with a 2305, 2320 or 2520.

We used to have an old home built splitter with a big cylinder that we ran off an Allis Chalmers 200 (100 horsepower). It operated at the same speed no matter what the engine speed was. We just let it idle while we used it.

Kennyg - thanks for clarifying about the quick hitch. That is an easy fix, I will look into your splitter now!!

Hi,

I have the splitter they sell at TSC on my 2520. The cycle time is slow enough to be just right if your working alone. After you flip it on retract, you have plenty of time to pick up a new round and bring it to the splitter just in time for it to be retracted to the right length.

I run mine at about 1600 it works well for me and I have yet to run into something it won't go through.

I have the Power Horse 13 ton on the 2520 and it works great. as fast as I need and I have split rounds I could barley pick up> Don't try to split in the center when doing this work from the outside in. You will love the 2-way splitting as You Are Not In A Race! I don't want wood flying off so fast I have to duck?
