3 point shield

Our 1510D is a 2 point to 3 point conversion and has a set of long stud surronding the PTO output shaft.

How much trouble is it to to get those studs out? I'd like to fab. a 3 point shield & replace the studs with short hex bolts.

I believe there are four studs on your model and they are set into the hydraulic case. They serve as a guide when R & R'ing the PTO housing.

I would use the large hex nuts on the studs to hold down a shield rather than replace the studs with bolts (IMHO).

I have removed studs by using two nuts and jamming them together very tightly and then using a socket or wrench on the outter nut to unscrew the stud.

Actually, you should be turning the inner nut to remove the studs in this manner, and BTW, it works very well! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Chuck, when you remove them studs, I believe hyd. fluid will flow out.

Didn't on my 1602D, is it made differently? I get so confused by these numbers, as to which is the larger frame but 2 cyl engine vs the smaller frame and 3 cyl like I have........

I want to remove the studs and replace them with short bolts. Then make a PTO shield out of aluminium or light steel that would use some of them them as the mounting points (for the shield).

I'm not sure if I know Yanmars well enough to judge "large frame" versus "small frame" but our 1510D is a smallish (as compared to the other models I looked at) 3 cyl., 4wd.

Well, I took them out on my 1602D with no leakage or other adverse effects, FWIW. I think you should be able to do the same..... you can see the holes where I removed the studs in this pic. I don't use my PTO anymore, since I don't mow or brush hog with it anymore, so i don't have any shielding.

Chuck, trust me and be sure to have a catch pan under the pto shaft when you remove the bolts.
