I hear you john: more money often means better equiptment.. however in my case, I didn't have more money. I spent 3700 on hoe with pump, spent a couple hundred on metal and welding rod and graded hardware. Spending 6-7k for a woods, bradco, etc. would spend more than budget allows. I now have a fully fuctional hoe that does what I need it to for 2-3k less...( I may be off on cost of other hoes with frames slightly ) With 1k ( I did not spent on BH ) I bought a used 3 1/2 ton rated trailer.

The ability to make most repairs myself makes spending more worth less. If I had to rely on tractor mechanics I think paying a premium for premium would be worth more..if ya follow my reasoning... so if heehaw wants to save money on equiptment all things should be considered...I still think a small 3pt hoe on his 50hp wouldn't hurt it, but I wouldn't make any promises ...

Having the tools, time, talent and will to git 'er done - can save a ton of money.

heehaw, from reading TBN I was a little hesitant about TPH hoes before I actually used one and can only comment on what I have experience with (see sig). I personally would not hesitate to buy another one just like it. There is no dought in my mind that a sub framed hoe is a better all around way to go. However, IMHO an individual, especially knowing the remote possability exists, would have to exibit a mental deficiency to do damage to their person or the tractor. Keep in mind I am only commenting on Kubota recommended "matched" hoe and tractor and Kubota recommended mounting.
irwin, I was literally hours away from purchasing a hoe like yours and having it freighted to the west coast when I ran across my used BL4690 on craigslist. Still wonder about the Taylor Way though... seemed like a really decent hoe at the time.

If ya got a hoe in good shape for a good price you're ahead. Must be some good deals that never make it further then a couple miles through a small ad in the local paper .. I think about all the new backhoes bought in the last 5 years or so, used for a year (maybe) then they sit in a shed for years... As long as it was protected somewhat it would be new to me..I looked for 6 months before I bought the TW.

I did have one issue with it, but $40.00 and a little time. This hoe is very solid and strong, it's been helping me a lot, never woulda been able to dig the holes I"ve dug by hand. Got a bad back and I'm too old for heavy shovel work...:( ....., and neighborhood kids don't like to work for money, guess they only need to hold a hand out and it gets filled with twenties..

Tim, that's a great idea --- modify the hoe to work as a subframe unit! Sure would like to see a couple (OK, 4-5..) pictures of how/what you did.

Thanks,

AKfish

built in several stages !st: mount to tractor at FEL mount and at rear where ROPS is bolted to, also at drawbar mount, 4" x 3/8 channel / 4" x 3/8" bar / 4 x 3/8 angle ...2nd: at hoe piece of 4" channel, some of the angle, and ...3rd:welded those 2 sections together, 4th: (not shown ) 3 x 1/2 bar to angle up to top hoe mount where a heavy 1" id tube welded to bar then welded to 3 x 1/2 bar
... ........... ...
Ok AK here's some in process pic's
...........................I'll get a finished product shapshot later to show how I secured the top of hoe to the frame.. for that space was tight, had to make sure the pump could be put on and taken off ..I know it's not pretty, just functional. will go for pretty next time..:D .

Thanks for the pics, Tim. (I learn best if I can see it...) Looks like a thing of beauty to me! Great job!

If I kinda understand the process --- you built the subframe from the FEL back to the drawbar and then welded the the hoe frame into a single mount. Used some beefy steel, too!

It'd be great to see how it ties into the top-link on the 3-pt, too.

So, when you put the hoe on --- you bolt it into the FEL up front (X number of 1/2"), and then 4-1/2" bolts at the drawbar and hook the PTO pump up. Is that the method?
Of course, then a big pin or bolt on the top-link, yes?

The construction and material dimensions is real similar to my JD 8A backhoe.

I get a real kick out of seeing a little "ingenuity" and some sweat equity! With a fixed, retirement income --- I'm gonna have to work more on sweat equity and less on a payment book with the bank!

Thats a big yes AK, sorry about not posting that last final pic showing it mounted at bh top pin. Seems I can't keep up with the "much" better-half's horse home needs-some day will have fences up, lane from barn to pasture cleared (including open a stonewall for walk-through), barn completed, walk around leveled, and haven't started on my own list yet.. Nothing wrong with having some projects...:D I only have weekends to whittle away at job lists, so try to plan for biggest bite per...

Margaret Thatcher did a pretty good job as well i think... ;)

Just a general tip:

Using the phone for an hour or 3, can save you many many bucks.. sometimes you can find double the quality fo half the price if you take a good look around...

I allways keep in mind that the money a manufacturer spends on advertising, is calculated into the price of a product.... From this point of view, it explains why using the phone to do some "reversed advertising" can give you more for less.... ;)

Okay Seon and AK, finally got it..........here's the front mount....

.................
.and a shot over rear between em.................
.............
...

..and top mount on hoe. ( When I'm down with this round of backhoe work I'll take it off and sandblast it for painting...no really I will ). Used a very thick tube steel welded to 3/8" bar cut to fit then the 1/2" bar angled to frame, secured with lot's of welding...

................

I had to buy a ROPS extension, my head wouldn't fit...:D ( course now I'll have to paint the tractor to match the ROPS extension)
