3 pt disc

Hello,

Looking to use a disc on my tractor.
Case/farmall/NH Dx31 4x4 hydro, loaded rears. have a loader I can leave on for forward weight or I have about 200lbs in suitcase weights I can add to front and leave off the loader for easier transport

What would be an appropriate size for my tractor? I am looking used and do not see any 5 -5 1/2ft ones. So is a 6ft one ok? 7 1/2 ft too big?(found a mf#25 7 1/2ft one for $400 obo).

This will be for planting food plots at a friends hunting property

i would buy that MF #25 for no other reason than to fix it up and resell it. or what you could do is buy that disk and take off some of the blades and make it a 6'. parts for that disk are plentiful through any AGCO dealer. those disks, even in decent condition, are very desirable around here. if you have one that looks halfway decent and is field ready, just name your price pretty much. i would stick with 5-6' for your tractor. look at the size of the blades and the weight of the disk. i have a 6' disk with 20" blades that weighs 800LBS and i have to pull it in 4wd all the time with a 56(47pto)hp tractor that weighs 6,000 lbs. now don't be mislead, im operating in very sandy soil thats been previously tilled numerous times and i have the disk set at its most aggressive setting. what kind of soil will these food plots be planted in? that will determine alot.

I have read that you can modify and take some discs off, but the worry with that is that the frame is still just as wide. it would make more weight on the discs left though. That would be good.

I guess part of my thoughts are transporting the disc back and forth from my friens property, which is about 2 1/2-3 hours away.

The #25 frame is the same on 6', 7-1/2', and 9' models. Only difference is axle length and number of spools/disc blades. You can remove the outer disc/spool and shorten the axles to make a 6'er from that 7-1/2'er. Frame is with-in the width of a 6'er.

I'd buy the 7-1/2'er, try it, and then decide if keeping it as bought or cutting it down is the best course of action. Unless you're discing freshly plowed ground, you shouldn't have too much trouble with it in 7-1/2' form I'd suspect.

know anything about ford ferguson disc? I have located one of them also, from the pic it looks similar to MF with handles to adjust, but the rear has a big basket/rack looking thing on it?

Same disc..... The Ferguson model became the MASSEY Ferguson #25 after the merger. The weight box on the painted blue disc would bolt right on the MF#25 in the last picture. You'll see the brackets right next to the lower link pins. The weight box was an option from the very first all the way through 'till the very end of production on that disc. Not real common.....and they can tend to get in the way on some smaller tractors.


Here's what I started with.....This is a 8'-10" MF #25.

And here's what I ended up with. It's now a 7'-6" version. I removed the axles, cut them down 7-1/2", rethreaded the ends, re-installed with one less spool and one less disc blade per gang, then cut down the scraper bar to match. You can do the same, only remove even one MORE set per gang to build a 6'er.

In addition to the tractor and disc, I have a #66 plow, a #24 baler, a #39 2-row planter, A #29 2-row front mounted cultivator, and a #41 DynaBalance mower, all of same vintage and in simular condition. Slowly working on a complete set of "1971 vintage" MF implements to go with the tractor.

That's a lot of implements.... Now I've have seen the "2-row planter" before and i really liked it....I like older farm equipment, and they sure don't make them like that anymore.

That's the first time seeing the tractor....Very sweeeet

Aside from modification, ifbearings are showing wear and you see grease out the side of the greasing box. How hard and how much does it take to rebuild the disc? The red one is $400 obo and blue is either $325 or 375. I really like your tractor also FWJ
