I wish they got more. I read this awhile ago when it happened, and was astounded how stupid the fair was.

Part of the practice of showing animals in a selling class is to help raise funds and reinforce the fact that animals are our food chain. If you don't want the animal to be in a "sales" class enter in a different class.

Wow! They send sheriff officers 10hrs each way to pick up a goat! This is worse than NY state taking a squirrel.
Not really the animal had been sold, so it actually was stolen livestock.

Is it stolen if the buyer declines and the party never received the funds and the family agrees to make everyone whole.

Another way to put it is the police will not even respond to smash and grab or shoplifting but 20 hours travel plus court and seizing after warrantless search make more sense for the tax payers as opposed to no harm no foul?

Justice is a scale that tips both ways otherwise the law would not provide for discretion on sentencing and first time offender probation, etc. plus this is a misdemeanor.

I never heard of this before and after reading the article, I'm a little confused why they have to pay her $300,000? She put the goat in the auction, it sold and became the owner of the highest bidder. If the rules are in place that once it's in the auction, you cannot change your mind, then it's not her goat anymore. What did I miss?

I think the part that they drove so far to get the goat, and wasted so many man hours on such a petty thing is disgusting. To go to that amount of effort just to kill a goat is proof that those in charge need to be fired. Imagine if they put half the effort into fighting violent crime?
