grsgreat,

Did you build that yourself? That takes a huge cost out of any building. Also the 2,500K in concrete you paid is not a ton less than the 3000K i will pay now in todays dollar for additional concrete pad and apron and at today's over $4 a gallon gas price to truck the stuff here.

However i do like your price over mine
nope. all i did was the electrical. i had contractors build the things.

im an electrician...not a builder.

Note that he's in northern Idaho, you're in NY. I live in far west Chicago Burbs, I'd say you're price would be great around here.

14ft for me is really overdoing it.

Yeah, I agree. I mean you could argue to make it 20' because you might buy a cement mixer some day.
There's also aesthetic considerations. A building that's too tall for it's size looks kind of industrial. If this is something that has to fit in with your house and landscaping, I'd put some thought into the architecture. We just went through this for a building, we got a quote from:
64 Metals : Metal Buildings : Metal Roofing : Steel Buildings : Pole Buildings Ohio : 64Metals.com

One of the things we did was make a scale drawing that included our house in the background, we ended up lowering the building and the pitch so it looked better. If you're building something out in a field it doesn't make any difference.

While you may not have heavy equipment it may be worth going to 12 feet as it could help when you sell the place. May not be a consideration at this time but could make or break a sales deal in the future. :)
I can't speak for anyone else, I have never have and never will build something for some unknown future owner. Build what you want!

i am going with 10ft high. I did get the double bubble wrap though. I just cant see spending nearly 30k on this thing at the moment. I will never have a giant camper or farm equipment and im not getting a lift. So although it would have been pretty sweet to have the extra 2ft high i really dont think for someone in my situation i would really use it other than have people come over and say "wow this is pretty high". I will keep the extra 2k and use it towards electric and heating equipment in the future. Will keep you posted.

Hello. I am also from central NY and I got a price from one of the big pole barn builders in the area. My pole barn is going to be 40x60 with 12' walls. The price I got was $33,000 for barn shell, two man doors, 6 windows. The building will be one color on bottom and another on the top. The price did not include any site work, gravel, or concrete. I had them price the material separately and that was $23,000. So the concrete, overhead door, gravel, and site work were all going to cost me more. I ended up just buying the materials from another place for around $18,000 which also includes a 12x10 overhead insulated door with electric door opener. I will build it myself. I already put in the run a crush for the 450' driveway to it, and in the barn itself. I did the excavation. Run a crush, $4,500. I am building it now and got a price for concrete installed of $6,500. These are just some prices that you can compare to what you are getting. Good luck to you.

Your concrete price is in line with mine so far.Your building is twice the size and your concrete is about exactly twice as much so we are about even on that. I think this guys concrete price is decent. Im calling some other companies monday to see what other prices i get. This guy was at 20,200 for the shell with concrete with two 9x8 overhead doors and a pass door and two 3x3 windows. What started to kill me was the added bubble wrap, gutters, site work and crushed run along with the two 9X10 extra insulated doors that got it up quite a bit. I was fine until then lol.

Still blows away morton. Id have ten grand more into them for the same thing. Although some of their minor details are probably better.

Doing it yourself saves on ton. No doubt there.

Just got another quote from a company out of PA. 38K for the exact same thing without site work!

I dont think so.

Decided i'm making all the doors 10X9's. I think it will look better to have them the same instead of two smaller 9X8's along with the two 10X9's. My guy added $400 more to the price, i think it's well worth it.

Only other thing i would have like to add was from going to 12ft high instead of 10ft high.

Man, i can't believe the prices of some of these big companies. Who can afford that?

That's why I'm doing mine myself. I figure I'm saving about 15,000 building it myself. I would have loved to have them install it as they are in and out in 5 days and I wouldn't have the headaches. It will probably take me a month of working on it when I can but for that savings, it will be worth it.

Yeah there is no company that is going to beat doing it yourself. My buddy did a 26X38 with his brother and had almost ten on materials alone without concrete. If i had more time and more people to help i might try it if i had someone else do the concrete but like you said they will do it in days. It would take me forever.

I give anyone credit who does it themselves though. Much less $ going to waste and everytime you look at it you will know that YOU did it. Will be very satisfying as well.

So far i have quotes for $38k, ($21K for a shell with no loft, concrete sitework, bubble wrap, nothing), 33K and 27K. Funny how the 38K place wants to charge 7.5K for concrete. What a joke thats absurd. The 27k is probably going to get the bid as im running out of places to contact.
