John: I really wanted to believe what the dealer said...it should run a flail mower. I have to take stock in what Deere publishes in their brochures and the flail mower wasn't a listed option until you get to the 3520.

Not wanting to shoot myself in the foot, I decided to follow Deere's marketing hype & ordered the 3520. This being my 1st and probably last tractor, I needed to get it right the first time.

I had a dealer friend tell me thay just HATED the 4210. If the customer bought one fully assured it was just what they wanted, more often than not they would come back sorry they didn't spring for the 4310. (Of course, there are MANY satisfied 4210 owners...) He said it was the one machine in the lineup that kept biting them.

So now we have the 3000TWENTYs and the 3120 is positioned as the 4210 replacement. Many dealers are fearing DejaVU all over again. Sure the customer is sure it is all they need, but will they feel the same a year from now?

Dealer are wise to sell down. Start at a machine (3720) that may be more power than the present need. If the customer steps down to a lesser machine, they are more apt to feel they are the one that made the compromise and live with it. When a dealer says the smallest one is all you will ever need, they might as well shoot their own foot. Same for us. We should probably suggest that the bigger machine will be more likely to satisfy. If the buyer steps down, they will be more likely to accept the compromise.

The 3120 is a great machine, and better equipped than the 4210 was.

Backhoes get breakout force from the maximum psi pressure. They get their rate of movement from the pump's gpm capacity.

I noticed that the 3120,3520 and 3720 all have a bore and stroke of 84X90mm (3.3x3.54in) while the 3320 has a bore and stroke of
88X90mm (3.46x3.54in) where does the HP gain come from on the 3520 and 3720 over the 3120?
