Are there any online videos showing specific instructions on removing and installing the 448 backhoe on a 3320 compact tractor?. Thank you. Bob

Welcome to TBN, gcrbob. I'm not familiar with actual videos that detail how to install and remove the 448 backhoe.

However, the JD website does offer a number of Operator's manuals online including the 447-448 backhoe.

There are specific instructions; including pictures that detail the install and removal procedures.

Here ya go -- OMLVU16563_J5

Good luck.

Bob, there was a video showing how to install/remove but on a 4000 series cab. The steps are 100% the same for the 3320 though. I looked over the deere site but did not see the video in there new format.

As a new poster be aware that if the rockshaft is not properly adjusted R&R will never work as shown in the video or the instructions. Several members, including myself, have needed to have the shaft adjusted properly and I believe a search will bring up some pics and details. If yours needs adjustment and you don't do it yourself, find the info and take it with you when visiting the dealer - the techs may not be familiar with the procedure either - as I found out.

Previously had 3320 OS w/447 BH

I had the same issues and finely gave up on the rock shaft for final line up and use the out riggers and bucket .If I put 3 2x4's high under I can go on and off in 2 to 3 minutes with the hydraulics on the hoe;)

I have a 3320 and the 485 BH.(updated 448 if I remember) My rock shaft won't lift the BH all the way up. I know about the adjustment and I made it. What I think is happening is that, with the thumb there's just too much weight for the 3320.

What I do is run the rock shaft up until it can't lift any further and then hook up the lines to the BH and use the stabilizer legs to move it the extra inch or so into final place. It's pretty quick but not like the videos.

I remember when I got my 3320 and hoe there was a video I watched, I think it was on a 4000 series tractor though. I looked but I can't find it.

What happens is when I let the BH sit for a couple of weeks, like when I need to use a three point attachment, the stabilizer arms gradually drop down and I have to hook up the BH lines and lift it up so the rock shaft can catch it. Then I re-hook up the rock shaft lines and the shaft takes it up as far as it can go, now I re-hook up the BH lines and lift the hoe to where the pins will fit in. It's a little bit of a pain but I only do it a couple of times a year.

(go to the "features" and "back hoe hook up")

ps, if you screw up the adjustment you can do some real damage!

Has anyone installed a 485 backhoe on a 3120 Tractor. I was just curious about the power. I recently ordered a 485 for my 3120 and was unable to try one out before. I went for the 485 because if I upgrade my tractor a series or more up, the backhoe will be good to go! Thanks

I'll tell you this, you won't be disappointed with the 485, I just dug a hole for a deceased horse for my friend and the place she picked was just about solid rock. I was taking boulders out of the ground 2 feet across and the hoe did it. I remember when I was deciding on a hoe for the 3320, I almost went with the 375 but if you look at the specs they show the same digging force as the 2 series hoes (46?). I had the 46 hoe and the 485 is a much more aggressive hoe.

Actually I think the 485 balances well on the 3 series tractors. You can't use it with a cab though, the seat hits the back of the cab I've been told.

Thanks for the info. I was a little hesitant at first with the purchase but I am glad to hear some positive feedback. My local Deere rep has not put one on a 3120 tractor before but like he said "if it didn't work well, Deere wouldn't make it fit that tractor". Good point! Have you ever used or seen the mechanical thumb for the 485 in action?

I have the thumb, when I bought it the guys on TBN advised I get the thumb too, it was pricey but JD doesn't give stuff away!
What I like about the thumb is that in the fully retracted position it doesn't impede the bucket but when you work were you're lifting rocks or debris is keeps the boom arm from getting beat up. On my 46 hoe I was always wedging rocks and things between the boom and the bucket to lift them, the boom got pretty beat up.

When you see it off the tractor it looks really big but once it's on it looks just about right. When it came in I was at my dealer's and we both though that was too big for the tractor but it's not, it works really well and I go through our Catskill hardpan with relative ease. I can't imagine there's a job I can't do. This year I'm digging holes for more solar panel mounts, a root cellar and mounts for my windmills.

Thumb min and thumb max.
