3320 jd tractor

If you are still running the OEM battery, change it. My 06 JD3320 didn't act like yours when my battery crashed, but it sure exhibited some odd behaviors. When JD755 said electrical, I thought battery.

Of course that is my suggested fix for about everything that goes wrong with a 3x20 series tractor.

That's not a bad idea actually. Let's say the battery is bad and the marginal voltage is causing trouble. You might want to get a meter and check it.

My advice is to take the battery out and move it 50 ft or so from your tractor so that you won't be tempted to try and just boost it off. Put another known good battery in its place and see how it runs. I just knew I had a major problem the way the tractor acted, but it was nothing but the battery.

The easiest thing to do with the battery is check the voltage. Lead/acid batteries have 2.2 volts per cell times six or 13.4 volts. Figure that for a good charged battery. Anything over 12.5 volts should not give you problems.

The type of problem he's having could be cause by a marginal battery that is, say, 11.5 volts but batteries as a rule do not go intermittent. That is, they drop in voltage but never go to zero volts and then back to 12 volts.

The first place to start is checking the solenoid to see if it is falling off. It's easy and will help us hone in on the trouble. The way to trouble shoot is to keep eliminating different areas where the problem can be. This is a how trouble shooting goes whether you're looking for a bad board in a mainframe computer that takes up two buildings or a toaster.

I remember once troubleshooting a massive radar system that had been intermittently failing for two years driving the Navy nuts. No one could find it because they kept guessing. It wasn't that they didn't know electronics, they were wizzes, they had poor trouble shooting skills. You pedantically eliminate each section until you get to the problem.

Talked with JD today, still not fixed. All dignostic tests ok. Factory rep should be coming this week. Third week in the shop.

If that were my situation I'd tell them to keep it and give me another tractor, or I will be seeing you in court. They should at least give you a loaner in the meantime.

Diagnostics won't find a loose connection that only opens when the tractor is moving.

Let's say it's a sensor that tells the main computer to shutdown the engine and the wire from the sensor only opens sporadically when you're moving, they'll never find it sitting in the shop.

That may be 100% correct, but we spend a lot of money on these tractors, more than many brand new cars. It is not reasonable to expect this guy to sit and wait around for weeks or months until they figure it out. I understand that all manufacturers make a lemon now and then, but JD or the dealer should step up and make it right.

Just my two cents. :)

I agree completely, at this price I'd be asking for another tractor or at the least a master tech from Deere meeting me at the dealer.

There's lots of things they could do even if they are poor trouble shooters. Start with switching out the main computer. I wouldn't take no for an answer at this point.

After buying my 3320 in 2006, I have nothing but trouble and worry from this tractor. While using the tractor for no known reason it shuts off. In has been in and out of the shop for 3 years now with no success.

Jd has replaced the fuel pump three times as well as relocated the pump out from the hood. Fuel tank has been removed and cleaned as well as only fueling with commerical diesel. All voltage is correct.

After the shutoff the engine will start again after 8 to 10 turnovers. Then it runs a short while and shutoff again and continues to shut down untill I give up for the day. The next day is ok for a couple of hours then all starts over again. Any ideas.

My 4520 would do it every morning I would turn the key to off wait a second then start and be fine all day, then it did it one morning and wouldn't start. t long story short there is a ground wire by the starter and the shield was over the terminal I cut it back and resanded the metal to clean it and no more problems

Different problems, his is not a turn over or starting problem it is an intermittent cut off problem.
